The Nicene Creed

The Nicene Creed originated in the 4th century to establish core Christian beliefs and resolve theological disputes.
It was formulated across two major church councils: First Council of Nicaea (325 AD): Emperor Constantine convened this council to counter Arianism—a heresy that taught Jesus was a created being rather than fully divine.
The bishops declared that Christ is of the "same substance" (homoousios) as the God the Father.
Council of Constantinople (381 AD): This council expanded the original text to elaborate on the divinity of the Holy Spirit, forming the finalized text still recited today.
