The king’s decision to stop at three revealed the limits of his confidence and persistence.

In the Bible, actions are often treated as manifestations of deeper realities, not mere compliance.

The king showed partial commitment which resulted in partial victory.

Keep going!
Don’t underestimate the responsibility and influence God has given you.
Be consistent!
Your response matters.
Stay goal-orientated despite early resistance!
Don’t hold back from what God has placed before you.
Don't underestimate your own agency!
Be faithful with the opportunities entrusted to you.
Treat every opportunity with importance!
Your actions still carry weight.

The symbolism of 'three strikes' is less about the exact number and more about restrained engagement. The king acted as if he did not fully believe the outcome was possible or worth pursuing intensely.

In 2 Kings 13, the issue is not "did the king technically hit the ground?"

He did.

The issue becomes:

“What did his decision to stop reveal?”

Here is small selection of heartfelt testimonies by two of our King's Kids, Sis Derin and Ps. Niyi's two children & Pastor Niyi from our Sunday Service before we went to the café to celebrate.

"Good morning, Church. I'm standing here today on behalf of King's Kids to say Happy Birthday to our mother, our dear sister, our mentor, Auntie Derin. Throughout the years, you've been determined and committed to all of us, juggling King's kids as well as choir leader for so long. You've always been ready to hear any problems or worries we've had, even taking them to our parents if needed. We thank you and appreciate you for all that you do and all the lives you've touched. We pray that as you enter a new year, the Lord will broaden your horizons, expand your social circle and open divine opportunities in your life and help you shoot for the stars in Jesus name. Amen." S.K.

"Auntie Derin is a woman of immeasurable strength, a God-type of strength. Owning a business and being a mentor to so many people academically and spiritually is not an easy task. However, throughout the years, l've learned more and more that you are exceedingly able by the grace of God. Turning 50 represents new beginnings, liberation, and an outpouring of the Holy Spirit. And I sincerely pray that as you enter this new phase, all of these things shall come to pass in your life. I also pray that God continues to strengthen you, bless everything you put your hands to do and grant you joy, peace and fulfilment in every area of your life. Thank you for your dedication, your guidance and the positive impact you have had on so many of us over the years. Thank you ma and God bless you." E.A.

"I'd like to start off by saying that she's always been there for us. She's been helping us for every step of the way through our many exams, GCSEs and [my brother’s] entrance exams. She'll always go above and beyond. Yeah she has these sayings that she said God put on her life that when it comes to our exams and our endeavours and the things we go through that she's like oh « her words: secret weapon » … even if we don't always appreciate it, she's always doing it with the best intentions and it always goes well in the end. So may the Lord bless you as you blessed us as you've helped us. May you be taken for many, many more years... and may the Lord bless you." O.A.

"l'd also like to say that for all our hobbies and stuff like that, for example, when I really want to like go forward with my singing stuff, she always puts me forward [and says] do recording for this, do concert for that. And it just really helped me and it’s just come to really appreciate the person I've become because she appreciates the person me and like the way like she's encouraged me and helped both of us in our art and my saying stuff. She's just helped with everything and I really I really really thank you and I hope that you're blessed in the way that you bless up the others around you." S.A.

"I’m grateful to God for my wife, you know. Thank the Lord. Hallelujah. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen… She's not standing behind me. She's standing by my side just to say that. She's standing by me, she has stood by my side for a long time. And I really thank God for that and for his grace and for his goodness. You know there's a lot of reasons why to thank God: May 28; thank God KICC Chelmsford will be 9 years old. 9 is the number of finality; May is a month of grace. Five: Grace, thank the Lord for his grace and for his goodness for all that he has done in our lives as a family. My sister-in-law really gave a powerful testimony about what the Lord has done many many things have happened over the years that I remember. She was telling me two days before we got married, they almost had a car accident while trying to sort some things out. You know, while she was trying to give birth you know all things almost went pear shape but for the Lord many many many opportunities the enemy has tried to cut things short but I stand by what the Lord showed me before I married. I saw her as an old woman and I said this woman is so beautiful. I must marry her and that convinced me when I saw. When I saw that, I said « I must marry her » she is still beautiful even at old age, you must be blind not to follow through. So I am committed, wholly committed, as the lord is committed but much more than that you know when I was sharing about the testimony that people are talking about. It’s there, a grace upon our life you know in grace to organise things, to make things to do, things in different ways, you know she's brilliant. She's super smarter than me. You know thank the lord. One of us is smart. Praise the lord, Amen. She's beautiful. She's more beautiful than I am. I mean, I can't compete. Bottom line, you know. So, only by grace have I married her, but for grace. Amen. Praise the Lord. And I thank God for the blessings that are constantly being manifested through her life. You can’t, I mean, know her and not be touched by something she will say, something she would do. Our passion, our desire, you know, she's always thinking about other people. That's the sort of person that she is. She's got the heart of everybody, everybody in the in the ministry at heart and beyond the ministry doing many different things. When I look at that, she sets the example of how a woman should be in my humble opinion as saying so and I thank God for that. So, we have to continue: there's a scripture in the Bible, book of Corinthians, I believe it reads Apostle Paul talking about « when I remember you I'm giving thanks to God » : that's what we must always do for one another. Challenge one another to do well. Challenge one another to continue to serve the Lord and beseech the Lord at times when things may be difficult. But, in difficult times, God is still great. God is still good. Still abundant. He can do all things « exceedingly abundantly above all that we can ever think or ask for » : hallelujah. Amen. I'm sure that greater and mightier things are still going to be manifested in our lives in the mighty name and our ministry, in our work and in our business and everything in the mighty name of Jesus. Thank the Lord. I'm so excited." Ps. N.A.

The Dead Sea Scrolls (DSS) provide some of the earliest and most direct evidence for why Psalm 91 is so closely linked with this month's theme of DIVINE COVERING and spiritual protection. It is the last prayer of the fragmentary scroll, 11Q11, found in Cave 11, which contains liturgical additions and incantations to drive out demons. The scroll explicitly links 'the terror by night' and 'the arrow... by day' to demons, spirits and nightmares, a theme also found in the targum (oral Aramaic translation) to Psalm 91. 🪽 Verse 4 highlights two key aspects of DIVINE COVERING. 1. Proximity: The chick must be tucked directly against the parent’s body for a bird to cover its young with its feathers. Scripture shows that God’s protection isn’t a remote force field, but a byproduct of being extremely close to Him. 2. Vulnerability and sacrifice: A mother bird uses her own body as a shield, taking the brunt of the storm or the heat so her young don't have to. Scripture portrays God as a protector who puts Himself between the danger and the person He loves. 🛡 Because God's faithfulness is an absolute defence, believers possess a 24-hour shield against a demonic cycle: 'the terror by night' and 'the arrow... by day'.❕️Ironically, Satan quoted Psalm 91:12 to Jesus (Matthew 4:6), attempting to weaponise a text that was anciently understood as a manual for his own defeat.
