Thanks to your generosity, we have just received a delivery with a new print run of 3,000 copies of 'They Met the Lord Jesus'. Written by the late Alec Taylor, these daily Bible reading notes introduce various people who met Christ during His earthly ministry, and through their encounters with Him, they show the readers how they can learn from His teaching, but most importantly how they can meet Jesus.

Please pray that as we begin to distribute these in various prisons, many will come to know Jesus as their own Saviour.

Please pray for our chaplains as they have the difficult responsibility of sharing the news of the death of loved ones with prisoners. There are often challenges in verifying the facts which can be time consuming and lead to delays in the prisoner receiving the news. Please pray for wisdom and sensitivity in these situations.

Give thanks for Mick, who came along to our services and signed up for our Letter Writing Ministry in his first prison, before being moved to another prison where he joined a Bible Study group run by one of our chaplains.

In his last letter to our volunteer before his release, Mick shared how he had appreciated the chaplaincy support and letters, writing, “Life here has been exciting and joyful which has been a pleasant experience along with a great team of chaplains which I will miss greatly.

I will walk on my path with God beside me and let Him decide where I go and what I do next with my life…you are a godsend for many people, not just me in difficult time of need. You give people hope and normality through the letters you send, so thank you for your service and the time you take to read and respond to everyone’s letters”.

Please pray that Mick will be kept on the right path after his release and that the church he has been linked with will be a blessing to him.

One of our chaplains recently went to see D who was reading some new Bible Study notes. He reports, “With much discussion in our churches about the genre of hymns we sing (Daylight readers doubtless have a variety of views!), here was a young man with no church background, who had for the first time come across Glorious Things of Thee are Spoken in his notes.

The words of that fourth verse by Newton, “Saviour since of Zion’s city...” had gripped him with a passion that we rarely in outside. Amazing and deeply moving”.

Please pray that these study notes will continue to be a blessing to D and that many prisoners will be encouraged as they use such notes for times of personal study in their cells.

One of our chaplains reports: “I was visiting a prisoner this past month who was about to be discharged. I had not had any contact with this young man until this point, but in going through the process of discharge with him, suddenly through the gloom of this badly lit cell, I spotted an open Bible on his desk. “Do you read this?” I asked. “Daily” replied the prisoner. And so an interesting and worthwhile conversation ensued. There is much more going on behind closed doors than we often realise. Pray on!”

Please pray for Reuben who was asking whether he needed to go through a priest to confess his sins. Our chaplain spent some time looking at 1 John with him, and Reuben responded, “Oh, so I can go straight to God through Jesus”. Please pray that the Lord will continue to work in his heart and life.

Give thanks for Max who has recently begun to use our Letter Writing Ministry. He has been in prison for a few years and does not have much contact with the outside world so is really appreciating contact with one of our volunteers, saying, “Having someone to write to means more than you can possibly ever realise”.

As part of our 20th anniversary celebrations, we partnered with Simon Alllaby of Turn the Page to produce a booklet of twenty short stories. Let’s Start From Here is still being regularly distributed in prisons and it was encouraging to hear the feedback of one prisoner recently.

He says: “I’ve never been religious but over the years people have given me loads of stuff to read that never interested me at all. But this book….! Every page is speaking to me, and about me! He gives you a little story and then there’s something that just speaks to me. It’s brilliant!”.

Please pray that this book will continue to be a blessing to many in our nation’s prisons.
