As well as using the prayer diary yourself, why not pass it on to your church, and perhaps have a particular focus on prison ministry in your services or prayer meetings during the week.

Give thanks that our Daylight Chaplains are sometimes able to contribute suggestions of books that might be suitable for prison libraries. In one prison, where a high percentage of men are neurodivergent, it was recently found that there were hardly any books on this topic in the prison library. Our chaplain has now been able to recommend several Christian books on neurodiversity and other pastoral topics to the librarian who was positive about ordering them. Please pray that when they arrive, these books will be a blessing to the men there

As part of our 20th Anniversary gift boxes that were sent to each prison, we included Daylight mugs, made from thermoplastic (as ceramic mugs are not permitted). These proved very popular with chaplains, with some using them during Bible Study sessions, and others during chats with bereaved prisoners.

With prisons requesting more, we had a new batch produced earlier this year, and are now also making them available to supporters, for a suggested donation of £10 for one or £15 for two, plus £4 postage. For each mug sold, we will also place one in a prison. To order yours, please call our office on 01245 252735 or email [email protected]

Give thanks for Wesley, a prisoner we have supported for some time, who recently made us a thank you card, writing, “As always I hope this letter finds you all in good health and spirit, and you are all continuing to be blessed for all the work you do. Please find enclosed a letter for H through your Letter Writing Scheme.

As always thank you to all of you for everything you do. I have found the regular studies you send so helpful and it helps me to understand the Bible. The volunteer Letter Writing is so nice as it allows us contact from outside from other Christians so as always I thank you all.”

Give thanks for Stephen who uses our Letter Writing Ministry and wrote recently telling us how much he appreciates this contact, saying, “No pen pal I should imagine really knows just how much their letters mean to us prisoners. I am lucky I still have some family that bother but a lot of prisoners have nobody. Letters are such a lift for us and especially from kind people who don't know us but want to write, amazing type of person who does that, thank you!”

Give thanks for encouraging responses to our series of Written Studies in Mark’s Gospel. Please pray that as we take a break from these to look at the prayer of Jesus in John 17 over the summer, prisoners will be encouraged by reading of the Saviour who intercedes for them.
