More than 145 people joined us earlier this month for The Art of Sustainable Church Flower Arranging, including flower arrangers from 21 churches across the Diocese of Chelmsford.

It was a practical evening about moving away from floral foam. There was a live demonstration of a pedestal arrangement made without foam, plenty of ideas for other ways to hold flowers in place, and advice on finding local, seasonal flowers.

People also got to meet local flower farmers and ask questions of a panel of experts. During the break, our Flower Guild had some of their own sustainable arrangements on display.

Thank you to Helen Chambers of Evolve Flowers for sponsoring the evening, to Rachael Holden of The Freckled Foxglove, and to everyone who came along.

Lesley Worboys, Secretary of our Flower Guild, says this is just the start. If your church would like some help with sustainable flowers, she’d love to hear from you at [email protected]

At Choral Evensong this evening we welcomed the Revd Canon Louise Williams as our new Residentiary Canon for Learning and Nurture.

In her new role Louise will lead our work with schools, children and families, including Junior Church and Little Robins, as well as our programmes for adults such as the Keene Lectures.

Thank you to everyone who came to share in the service, and please keep Louise in your prayers as she begins this new chapter.
