As shared by BUGB this morning:
A message from our friends in the Middle East:
"This moment is one of immense magnitude, one that could drastically reshape the region for decades to come. At this time, we are specifically asking that people pray for:
● Peace and justice in our region.
● The protection and safety of civilians.
● Wisdom and restraint among decision makers and global leaders.
● Comfort for families.
● Reconciliation and healing between nations."

On Saturday morning, Christian leaders from across the Middle East, including Thimar-LSESD leadership, were gathering in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for the annual Movement Day Dubai conference when, just across the adjacent waters of the Strait of Hormuz, joint US-Israeli strikes hit Iran.

The Iranian response was quick and unprecedented in its geographical scope. Within hours, Iran fired back at US and Israeli targets across the region, including in Gulf states like the UAE. Above Dubai, air defense systems intercepted incoming missiles, jolting the attendees of Movement Day.

The conference continued, but it was understandably difficult for participants to focus as news poured in about further attacks, the closure of airspaces, and the cancellation of flights. One attendee shared with Nabil Costa that he was supposed to return to his country for his son’s chemotherapy session tomorrow. But now that is not possible. The hospital where the treatment was scheduled has been repurposed into a military hospital and, like Costa, his flight has been canceled. Both men, along with other attendees, are stuck in Dubai, waiting, like the rest of the region, to see what comes next.

The Middle East now finds itself in the midst of a regional conflict, one whose outcome and consequences are anything but certain. As of the time of this writing, Lebanon has not been directly dragged into the conflict, but the conditions for it to be involved are still present, as is the potential for the conflict to escalate further. An already fragile region could be on the verge of completely shattering. Attacks continue across the region, with missile interceptions and strikes in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Iraq, and Kuwait.

In this turmoil and uncertainty, we are asking our friends and partners around the world and in different churches to pray tomorrow for the Middle East. This moment is one of immense magnitude, one that could drastically reshape the region for decades to come. At this time, we are specifically asking that people pray for:

● Peace and justice in our region.
● The protection and safety of civilians.
● Wisdom and restraint among decision makers and global leaders.
● Comfort for families.
● Reconciliation and healing between nations.

We find ourselves now in an unprecedented situation. As a new, uncertain chapter begins, our presence in the Middle East and Gulf region is arguably more important than ever. While headlines now focus on military developments and geopolitical consequences, we remain committed to strengthening local churches and Christian leaders, supporting families affected by violence, and fostering reconciliation between communities.

In days of fear like this, let us remember the Lord’s promise to His people in times of trouble: “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” (Isa 41:10 ESV). Let us all continue steadfastly in prayer and in the trust of the Lord. May His light guide us through the darkness ahead.
