*Sacred Heart Youth Group Enjoys Summer Sports and Community Spirit*

Members of the Sacred Heart Youth Group have been making the most of the wonderful summer weather, enjoying opportunities to spend time together, learn new skills, and strengthen friendships through sport.

In June, the group visited Caterham Bowls Club Caterham Bowls Club, where they were warmly welcomed and introduced to the techniques and skills of playing lawn bowls. While some discovered a natural talent for the sport more quickly than others, everyone had great fun, enjoyed the friendly competition, and left with a new appreciation for a sport they would love to try again.

In July, we were once again blessed with glorious sunshine during our visit to the lawn tennis courts at Queen’s Park Road. Some of our young people were lucky enough to receive fantastic coaching from Tutu, one of our supportive dads, while the more experienced players enjoyed a competitive match.

The day continued with young people, parents, and leaders coming together for a relaxed picnic and a chance to chat and share time as a community. We ended the afternoon with an energetic game of rounders , adults versus youngsters and, much to the delight of the younger team, the youngsters came out victorious!

These summer activities have been a wonderful reminder of the importance of friendship, teamwork, and creating memories together as a community.

Come along and join us for a Timely Session on Embracing Life from conception to natural death’

This weekend when the church dedicates The Day for Life to reflect on and raise awareness of the meaning and value of human life at every stage and in every condition – we are delighted that Dr Pia Matthews will be speaking on the theme of: Ethical issues: beginnings and endings followed by a discussion. Refreshments will be available.

To be held on Saturday 20th June, 10.45 am to 12.00 noon in Canon Roe Hall, Sacred Heart Church, Caterham. There is Mass at 10am in the Church if you wish.



Dr Matthews is a senior lecturer at St Mary’s University, a faculty member of the Mater Ecclesiae College, and Director of Quality Assurance and Curriculum Development at Allen Hall Seminary Chelsea.

Art Exhibition and Sale in Support of the
Caterham Sacred Heart SVP, Centenary
Hall, Saturday 9th May, 11 am to 7 pm

You are all warmly invited to come and
enjoy an innovative art exhibition in the
Centenary Hall on Saturday 9th May by
professional artists, Sacred Heart parishioner Cruz Jurado from Argentina and
Arturo Zarraga from Mexico.

The exhibition will showcase a wide variety of origi- nal oil, acrylic and mixed media
artwork mounted prints and postcards on
themes ranging from vibrant, colourful
Mexican scenes, dynamic depictions of
Argentine polo players and gauchos through to beautiful views of the English countryside.

The artists have generously agreed to donate a percentage of any profits from art sales on the day to support the Caterham Sacred Heart SVP Conference who work voluntarily with people in need both locally
and beyond.

of the SVP would also be welcome😊
Entry is free.

The Parish bar will be open,
and tea, coffee and cake will be available
for sale with the proceeds going to the
Sacred Heart Parish. Please come along for
a relaxed afternoon with your family and
friends.

Ten of the sixteen adults who became Catholics at our Easter Vigil. All the five neophytes are here (their baptismal garments-aka white scarves- are the clue). Six were baptised into other Communions, so were received into full Communion, and another five were baptised Catholic but never received any further sacraments or formation. We have been truly blessed this year.

Good Friday.

At 15:00 today, we celebrated the Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion (a solemn afternoon liturgical action) in which the Passion of Christ is proclaimed, the Cross is adored, and the Church prays intensely for the needs of believers and the whole world.
