We had two helpers today showing the ‘magic’ of pepper and water; and a performance of ‘How Great Thou Art’ by George on the mouth organ. A wonderful example of different generations of God’s family contributing to our worship 😀

Castle Douglas couple’s dedication to church garden

A Castle Douglas couple have spent years transforming the garden at the Parish Church in Castle Douglas from an overgrown eye-sore into a haven of tranquillity.
For the last five years, Rob and Lynda Mawson have tended the garden around the parish church and behind the church hall.

“We started during COVID, doing little bits here and there, but it has just mushroomed since then, “ explained Rob. “We ended up working our way through the entire grounds.”

Lynda continues, “We’ve paid for some of it ourselves, but the church and congregation have supported us and people in our community have also helped by donating plants. People can be very generous.”

Dumfries and Galloway Citizens Advice Service (D&G CAS) hold regular Wednesday and Friday advice sessions at the Lower Church Hall. Session Supervisor, Carol Frith is delighted with how the garden has been improved, “Rob and Lynda have worked extremely hard to transform the garden area into a bright, tidy and cared for space. They really deserve a big thank you for all their hard work. Many who attend the outreach come to us in times of crisis. Now we can not only offer the reassurance of good advice, but a calming environment too.”

Rob and Lynda want to encourage anyone in the community to come and enjoy the garden, “People who work in Castle Douglas sometimes come here to eat their lunch. It really is for the whole community. If people would like to donate plants, you can just leave them at the rear of the church.”
