On Tuesday 21st April our church community will say a final goodbye to Pat Taylor. Pat died in Boarbank on Good Friday, 3rd April, after a life of commitment and service to St. John the Baptist Church. Pat attended St. John's all her life and was Churchwarden for more than thirty years. She also served as Treasurer for many years. She was a fount of knowledge for all church matters at parish, deanery and diocesan level. When she stood down as Churchwarden in 2019 the PCC and congregation started to realise just how much Pat had done in the background to keep the church running smoothly, and that we had much to learn! Pat continued to worship with us on Sunday mornings until she no longer could, and I am sure that she missed being a part of the congregation in the last months as much as we missed having her with us. Pat's funeral will take place in church on Tuesday 21st April at 1.00pm, followed by burial in the cemetery and refreshments in the church room.

A reminder that the Christmas celebrations begin at church this coming Sunday with the traditional Carol Service at 4.00pm. At this time of busyness and (for some people) stress, why not take a little time out to come and sing some carols and be reminded of the true meaning of Christmas.

Our 125th anniversary celebrations are ongoing, and have so far been really well attended, and we have had some great feedback. If you haven't already been the exhibition is still on, and talks and tour available tomorrow (Thursday) and Saturday 2pm to 4pm.

If your ancestors were married at Flookburgh Church between 1900 and 1944 we have the marriage registers to view 2pm - 4pm tomorrow and Saturday before we return them to Cumbria Archive. This will be your last chance to see them for a while!

Something special is happening at church in a couple of weeks. In October the church is celebrating the 125th Anniversary of the opening of the present church building, which replaced the previous one on Flookburgh square. The church will be open throughout the week, and there will be an exhibition of various documents from the church and village history. On Saturday 11th at 2.00pm there will be a talk and tour of the church when there will be lots of information regarding its history. This is also an opportunity to view the ancient Charter and Regalia, the Regalia have not been on display for some time. See posters round the village for full details of times and opportunities to see the exhibition.

On Sunday 21tst September the wonderful "Otto Voce" choir will be performing a concert in St. John's church at 3.00pm. They describe the concert as "an afternoon of uplifting music". Entry is £10 on the door, children free and refreshments include. All profit after costs goes towards the much needed building repairs.
This promises to be a very pleasant afternoon of music, and the chance to meet others. Do come and support the church, you will be made very welcome.

Even though we are such a tiny congregation, a couple of committed volunteers give time to open and lock the church every day so that we can remain a presence in the community, where people can come for some quiet reflective time. I know that this is appreciated by many people, as not all churches manage to do it. Sadly, yesterday, when the volunteer went to lock up she found the large donations bottle smashed and the recent donations taken. Despite this, we will continue to remain open for as long as we can, but as you can see, this is getting increasingly difficult.

A huge thank you to everyone who supported our Strawberry Tea on Saturday. It was a lovely community day with a great atmosphere. A special thank you to Flookburgh Band Juniors who entertained us so spectacularly. The future of the band is clearly safe in the hands of these talented musicians! Well done and thank you to all involved.
