The Anchor That Holds
When the storms of life crash in, faith stands firm on the one thing that never moves — the unchanging Word of God…
Storms come to every one of us. Not one of us is exempt. The bereavement, the diagnosis, the empty bank account, the person who turned away — sooner or later the winds rise and the waves start breaking over the side. The question was never whether the storm would come. Jesus settled that: In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world [John 16:33 KJV]. He never promised us calm seas. He promised us Himself, and He promised us His Word. So the real question is not what the weather is doing — it is what you are standing on while it does it.
The writer to the Hebrews gives us the picture: Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil [Hebrews 6:19 KJV]. An anchor has one job. It holds. It keeps a ship off the rocks when everything above the waterline is chaos. And notice where this one is fastened — not to anything on earth, not to your circumstances, your health, your income or your plans, but within the veil, into the very presence of God. That is why it holds. Your hope is tied to the throne, and the throne does not move.
This is what standing strong in faith actually means. It is not gritting your teeth and pretending the storm is not real. It is dropping anchor into the Word of God and refusing to drift. Jesus said the wise man built his house upon a rock, and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock [Matthew 7:25 KJV]. Same rain. Same wind. Two houses, two foundations, two very different endings. The storm did not make the difference — the foundation did.
So when the lies come, and they will — that God has forgotten you, that this one will finish you — answer them the way David did: Thou art my hiding place and my shield: I hope in thy word [Psalm 119:114 KJV]. Take the truth you have hidden in your heart and stand on it. And when you cannot see the road ahead, take the next step by the light you have been given, for thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path [Psalm 119:105 KJV].
Faith is not a feeling. It is a decision to trust what God has said above what you can see. Read His Word. Believe it. Do it — be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only [James 1:22 KJV]. Whatever you are facing today, do not drift. Drop anchor. The Word of God will hold you, and it will see you through. God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble [Psalm 46:1 KJV].
