Thank you to volunteers from Keep Grangetown Tidy for joining us this morning as we gave thanks for their work and prayed for creation.

After mass we gathered at the image of St Francis of Assisi who had a particular love of nature and committed ourselves to looking after creation.

PCC minutes from St Dyfrig’s Church detailing the Council’s agreement to Cardiff Council’s offer to buy the church and combine with St Samson’s……….

Minutes of the Parochial Church Council Meeting held in the Church Vestry after short Lent Service on Tuesday 25th February 1964.

When the Archdeacon of Llandaff, the Ven. James spoke to Fr. Davis, Churchwardens and P.C.C. members on the future of St. Dyfrig’s Church.

The meeting opened with prayers after which the minutes of the previous meeting were read, confirmed and signed. And following the minutes of the previous meeting when the Archdeacon was present were read and confirmed.

Easter Vestry Meeting to be held in the Church Hall on Tuesday 7th April 1964 at 7.30pm.

Archdeacon’s Remarks — The Archdeacon then proceeded to speak about the negotiations which have been made about the sale of St. Dyfrig’s Church to City Council. The price to be asked at £20,740. The estimated figure for the removal of furnishings at St. Dyfrig’s would be £9,000. The City Council offered £3,000 for removing all furnishings excepting the organ which would be moved by purchaser, the present organ in St. Samson’s Church being in perfect condition.

The Archdeacon stated that worship would remain in St. Dyfrig’s Church right up to the time that St. Dyfrig and St. Samson’s be completed. While the new Church is being built St. Samson’s congregation would either hold their services in St. Samson’s Church Hall or come to St. Dyfrig’s Church.

Mr J. Brooks asked if an alternate site could be had. The Archdeacon explained of no available site.

Varied opinions were stated by Messrs. Squire, Gatfield and Moles.

The Archdeacon then spoke of the proposed new road, which would be built and that the position stood the same as the previous meeting in regards the amount of land required which would result in 20 feet off east and west ends off St. Dyfrig’s Church.

Further comments were made by Mr W. Davis, Mrs Squire, Mrs Gatfield, Mrs Ames and Miss Robson.

Mr Squires proposed that a meeting be held with St. Samson’s P.C.C. members which was agreed upon, and also a suggestion that St. Dyfrig’s P.C.C. should meet Fr. Thomas Priest in charge of St. Samson’s.

It was resolved that the P.C.C. give its consent to the acceptance of the offer of £20,740 made by the City Council for St. Dyfrig’s Church (excluding the cost of removing the furniture except the organ), and resolved to join with the people of St. Samson’s parish, the new Church of St. Dyfrig with St. Samson. The motion was carried with no contradiction but with three abstentions.

The resolution was proposed by Mrs Squire seconded by Mr J. Brooks.

The vote taken resulted in 14 in favour with 3 abstentions.

The meeting closed with grace by the Archdeacon at approx. 9pm.

Signed,

1st March 1965.
