Marriage & Family Life - Archdiocese of Cardiff

Marriage & Family Life - Archdiocese of Cardiff The Marriage & Family support link within the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cardiff.

Helping parents in their Sacred Vocation of parenthood & supporting families through the 9 seasons of life, all interacting with one another and across generations. Our project aims to strengthen and develop the support the Catholic Archdiocese of Cardiff can offer to the parents within its communities. This will be achieved specifically through extending existing provision of parenting programmes

which affirm and develop parenting skills. Direct support will also be given by signposting parents with specific needs to organisations able to provide appropriate professional support and services.

Choosing words like “died by su***de” or “took their own life” might feel like a small change - but it can make a big difference.

For those bereaved by su***de, it removes stigma and makes it easier to have open conversations about grief.

It’s time to talk about su***de with care, and to choose words that help rather than harm.

This week marks 20 years since the 7/7 London bombings, a sobering reminder of the importance of community vigilance and care for one another.

Our Safeguarding Team has been running training sessions for Parish Volunteers and retired clergy this week, focusing on Prevention Duty and Counter Terrorism awareness - equipping our volunteers with the knowledge and skills needed to keep our communities safe.

If you're involved in parish work, please check with your parish office about upcoming training opportunities.

Archdiocese Family Fun Day
Belmont Abbey. Saturday 31st May 2025

Families from across the Archdiocese came together to celebrate Jubilee year with an afternoon of Pilgrimage and fun for all.
The setting for the day was the magnificent grounds of Belmont Abbey and on this sunny day they looked immaculate. It was such a fitting setting for a wonderful day of Pilgrimage and sharing.
The day started with Mass in the Abbey with Archbishop Mark and members of the Abbey community plus members of the Archdiocese clergy.
It was an appropriate start to the day as it was the Mass of The Visitation of Mary to her cousin Elizabeth. The day was then given over to Fun for all. For the younger members there were; Outdoor games, Face painting , Treasure Hunt, Balloon craft, ice cream and the ever popular Bouncy Castle and for the other members of our families there was: tea and coffee galore, chance to catch up with old friends and make new ones, information gathering from: CAFOD, SVP, Young Christian Workers, Family Life, Food Bank and The Abbey Community.
We were blessed with a warm day which provided a truly Jubilee experience for all those present. His Grace enjoyed meeting people from across the Archdiocese and spoke at length with those at the event.
This is just one of the many Jubilee events planned for this year. Look at the Archdiocese Website and try and join in with any of the other events taking place over the next few months. Each one will provide a surprising and rewarding experience for anyone joining in. The opportunity to come together is enriching in itself. The Family Fun Day at Belmont was a fitting reminder that Jubilee is a time of Renewal and Celebration and we hope that everyone felt a feeling of Hope after a special day of celebration.

Thank you to everyone who enabled and attended this special event

Dear friends in Christ,

This week we celebrate the Ascension of the Lord on Thursday, a Holy Day of Obligation when we should attend Holy Mass to the best of our ability. It is an important solemnity to celebrate since it recognises the end of Our Lord’s earthly ministry and the beginning of a time of prayer for the coming of the Holy Spirit in nine days at Pentecost.

Mass times are as follows:
Wednesday 7pm Vigil Mass
Thursday 8am Mass and Pontifical Mass 12noon

This is where the Church gets the custom of praying for nine days, a novena, for a particular intention. I encourage you to find your own novena for Pentecost or say this prayer asking for a renewal of the Holy Spirit every day starting on Thursday until Pentecost:

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of thy faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created, and thou shalt renew the face of the earth.

Next Saturday (31st May) we have another exciting event taking place, the Jubilee Family Funday on the Abbey lawns. The day begins with Holy Mass at 11.30am being celebrated by Archbishop Mark. Then is the opportunity to enjoy the picnic which you have brought with you on the Abbey lawns. Tea, coffee and squash will be available as well as outdoor games, a bouncy slide, information stands and a Pilgrims’ Treasure Hunt. It will be a fun-packed day for all the family!

My prayers and best wishes,

Father Augustine
