Archdiocese of Cardiff Menevia - Archesgobaeth Caerdydd Mynyw

Archdiocese of Cardiff Menevia - Archesgobaeth Caerdydd Mynyw The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cardiff-Menevia covers South, Mid & West Wales and Herefordshire in England.

The official page for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cardiff-Menevia. Although the 'Archdiocese of Cardiff' was only founded in 1916, it's history goes back further. Following the laws of 1829 relaxing the penal laws from the Reformation, Vicars Apostolic were appointed by the Holy See within the U.K. The Western District included what is now the Archdiocese of Cardiff. In 1840 the Wes

tern district was divided and Herefordshire, Monmouthshire and Wales became the Welsh district with Bishop Brown OSB as vicar apostolic. Later further changes were made to the Welsh district and the diocese of Newport and Menevia was set up as a suffragan see of Westminster diocese. In 1895 the boundaries changed again, and the diocese of Newport was redefined as comprising Glamorgan, Monmouth and Hereford. In 1916 the Cardiff Province was established, comprising the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Cardiff with diocese of Menevia as a suffragan see. Finally in 1987, Pope John Paul II divided the Archdiocese of Cardiff in two and formed the Diocese of Wrexham in the North of Wales, giving the boundaries we have today. At the beginning of 2024 a formal listening process was initiated with a view to the unification of the Archdiocese of Cardiff and the Diocese of Menevia. On December 2, 2024, the Archdiocese of Cardiff and the Diocese of Menevia received the Papal Bull which heralded the official beginning of the new Archdiocese of Cardiff-Menevia

Congratulations to Fr. Illtyd M. and the twenty two men who completed the 5th Annual Men's Walking Pilgrimage on Saturday 13th June!

Setting out from the Cardiff Oratory after the 8am Mass and breakfast, the group made their first stop to pray at the ruins of the Dominican Friary in Cardiff, before heading north along the Taff River - covering an impressive twenty two miles in total.

The Rosary, litanies and other pilgrim's prayers were prayed at various stages along the way, with a stop for lunch and refreshments before the pilgrims arrived at the site of the ancient ruined shrine of Our Lady of Penrhys to pray the Angelus at 6pm.

The annual prayer intentions of the pilgrimage are for the Archbishop and for an increase in vocations to the Priesthood and to Catholic family life.

The next Annual Oratory Men's Pilgrimage will be to the Skirrid for St. Michael's Day in September.

Yesterday it was announced that the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill will return to parliament in autumn. Today, Archbishop Mark issued the following statement:

"It is immensely disappointing that the Bill to legalise assisted su***de is being re-introduced to Parliament. It does nothing to uphold the dignity of every person, or encourage investment in good palliative care, which is the best way to accompany those facing challenging situations at the end of their lives."

Archbishop John Sherrington, Lead Bishop for Life Issues for the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales, has also issued a statement - a link to it can be found in the comments below πŸ‘‡

Grant, we pray, almighty God,
that we, who glory in the Heart of your beloved Son
and recall the wonders of his love for us,
may be made worthy to receive
an overflowing measure of grace
from that fount of heavenly gifts.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.

The Catholic Christian Outreach Mission is coming to the Archdiocese from the 19th June to the 5th July and we are pleased to say that our first event, Nightfever, will be held at St David's Metropolitan Cathedral, Cardiff. Nightfever is an invitation for all who pass by to come inside, light a candle, and encounter Jesus Christ in His Church. Jesus in the Eucharist is at the centre of the evening, placed on the altar for adoration, with priests on hand throughout for Confession and pastoral conversations.

🌟 Something exciting is coming to the Archdiocese of Cardiff-Menevia this summer!

From 19 June to 5 July, we are partnering with CCO (Catholic Christian Outreach) for a three-week Diocesan Mission - stretching from Aberystwyth to Hereford.

Twelve CCO missionaries will be joining us, bringing with them a practical and prayerful approach to evangelisation called Intentional Accompaniment - walking with people on their faith journey, just as Jesus walked with the disciples on the road to Emmaus.

There are events open to everyone across the Diocese, including:πŸ“ Nightfever Cardiff - Friday 19 June, 7pm-10pm at Cardiff Cathedral
πŸ“ Day of Prayer across the Diocese - 24 June
πŸ“ Learn to Pray at Belmont Abbey - 27 June
πŸ“ Young Adults Day in Cardiff - 5 July

Archbishop Mark says: "I pray that their time with us will be richly blessed. May they help all of us grow in confidence in being more courageous missionary disciples."This mission is for every Catholic in Cardiff-Menevia - whatever your age or background. Come along, bring a friend, and share this with your parish community. πŸ™

✝️ Corpus Christi Procession 2026 β€” Hereford High Town

This Corpus Christi Sunday, St Francis Xavier Parish in Hereford city centre held their annual Eucharistic procession through Hereford High Town - and despite the inclement weather, a truly large crowd of parishioners turned out to support it. πŸ™

Parish Priest Fr James Hood OSB led the procession, accompanied by Assistant Priest Fr John George OSB. With the parish choir, 30 altar servers, and the children's liturgy group all taking part, the procession made a real impression - stopping the traffic and giving a powerful Christian witness in the heart of the city. ✨

Congratulations and thanks to all at SFX who took part - their faith and dedication shone through! 🌟

🌟 Fantastic News from St Peter's RC Primary School! 🌟

We are thrilled to share that St Peter's RC Primary School in central Cardiff has been rated EXCELLENT in every single area in their latest Catholic School Inspectorate (CSI) Report, published on last month! πŸŽ‰

The school achieved the top rating across all three areas:
βœ… Catholic Life and Mission
βœ… Religious Education
βœ… Collective Worship

This is an outstanding achievement β€” very few schools have reached "Excellent" under the new CSI Framework, making this result truly exceptional.

Congratulations to Headteacher Gareth Rein and all the dedicated staff at St Peter's. This reflects the incredible commitment, faith, and hard work of your whole school community. Well deserved! πŸ‘

Thank you to Paul McManus, Chair of Governors, for sharing this wonderful news with us.
