Cardiff Vocations

Cardiff Vocations Official Vocations page for the Catholic Archdiocese of Cardiff, for those discerning a call to the priesthood and religious life.

Cardiff Vocations is to help those who are discerning a call to Priesthood or Religious Life in the Archdiocese of Cardiff. The Archdiocese only considers applications for study for the diocesan priesthood from those who already have the permanent right to live and work in the UK. Archbishop Mark took all the priests (and our new Deacon Dale Cutlan), who are part of the Wales and Herefordshire World Youth Day pilgrimage to Portugal, to lunch in Fatima this afternoon. It’s been a very tiring but very rewarding experience, with homilies, confessions, Mass every day and spiritual reflections shared, not to mention the personal accompaniment of our young people. It’s been a privilege to see the hard work of our volunteer leaders and the wonderful behaviour of our young Pilgrims as they discover more about their Catholic faith.

Travelling as a priest to World Youth Day is an incredible experience; the opportunity to celebrate Mass with literally thousands of other priests and hundreds of bishops for hundreds of thousands of pilgrims, who have journeyed from all over the world, hearing confessions and leading catechesis. Priesthood is a life, which involves great sacrifice, but the consolations are even greater. Thanks to Fr Matt Roche Saunders for the middle group photo.

Selected from some photos of the after party of Dale’s ordination today. Dale had a good representation from the priests of the Archdiocese and, of course, was privileged to be ordained by his own Archbishop, alongside his confreres at Allen Hall seminary.

Please keep our seminarian, Dale, in your prayers as he is due to be ordained deacon by Archbishop Mark at Westminster Cathedral tomorrow. It is at ordination as a deacon where a candidate enters the clerical state and promises to pray the divine office every day. He also promises to live a life of celibacy and to show respect and obedience towards his bishop and his bishop’s successors. Please also keep our discerners in your prayers as some of them look towards the possibility of application this coming year.

This Sunday, we celebrate Good Shepherd Sunday, which is a particular occasion to pray for vocations to the priesthood and support the priest training fund, as much as we are able. There are a number of online resources available through the Archdiocesan social media and we have published a short online newsletter with the most up-to-date news.https://rcadc.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Cardiff-Vocations-newsletter-2023.pdf

We have produced a short newsletter with vocations news to mark vocations Sunday and the priest training fund appeal this weekend. Inside, you will see some news as to what's happening in terms of promotional events and an overview of what discernment looks like
