Muslim Council of Wales Statement | 20 October 2026

Ahead of tomorrow's Senedd debate, titled “Full-face coverings are against British values”, tabled by Reform UK MS Jason O'Connell, the Muslim Council of Wales expresses its deep disappointment that Reform UK, as the official opposition in Wales, has chosen to use valuable parliamentary time and taxpayers' resources to pursue a divisive debate that risks further stoking prejudice and undermining community cohesion.

At a time when Wales faces significant social and economic challenges, our elected representatives should be focused on bringing communities together, not sowing further division.

Religious freedom, mutual respect and the right to personal choice are fundamental values that must be protected.

We urge all Senedd Members to reject divisive rhetoric and uphold the values of tolerance, dignity and respect that underpin Welsh society.

🌙 THE SOUND BELIEVER
The Human Beneath the Project

🆕 A Weekly Lecture Series, starting today!

🌿 Before we can carry the weight of the Ummah, we must first learn to carry ourselves.

We all aspire to make a difference, serve our communities and contribute to the greater good. But how do we remain spiritually grounded, emotionally resilient and steadfast when faced with life's challenges?

How do we ensure that the pressures around us — and the struggles within us — do not distract us from our greater purpose?

Join us for The Sound Believer, a thought-provoking weekly lecture series exploring the inner strength, character and spiritual foundations needed to become believers who are not only passionate about serving the Ummah, but also equipped to sustain that service.

✨ Because building a stronger Ummah begins with building a stronger believer.

🗓️ Every Thursday

🌅📖 AFTER FAJR QUR’AN CIRCLE

🌿 Start Your Day with the Words of Allaah!

Al-Manar Centre warmly invites brothers of all ages to join our After Fajr Qur’an Circle — a beautiful daily gathering to strengthen our connection with the Book of Allaah, improve our recitation and work together towards completing the Glorious Qur’an.

📖 One Page Each… One Qur’an Khatmah Together!

✨ How does the circle work?
🔹 Every morning after Fajr prayer, participants gather to recite the Qur’an together.
🔹 Each brother recites one page aloud, while the others listen attentively.
🔹 Recitation is gently corrected where needed, helping everyone improve their Tajweed, pronunciation and confidence.
🔹 The circle continues from one participant to the next, one Qur’an page each, aiming at a collective Khatmah in the future, in shā’ Allāh.

🌟 One page per person, a shared journey through the Qur’an!

👥 All brothers are welcome, regardless of age or level of recitation.
Whether you are just beginning your Qur’anic journey or already recite confidently, there is a place for you in our circle.

💚 Come along, take your turn, learn from others and enjoy the blessings of beginning your day in the company of the Qur’an.

Tomorrow marks the first of the White Days (Al-Ayyām al-Bīḍ) for this month, Rabee'ul Aakhir.

Let us strive to be among those whom Allãh will honour with entry through Ar-Rayyan, the gate of Paradise reserved for those who fast.

Please pass this reminder on to others. Even if you are not fasting on these days, let us at least be among those who remind and encourage others to do good, in the hope that we may be among those referred to by our noble Prophet ﷺ when he said:

“Whoever guides someone to a good deed will have a reward like that of the one who does it.”

Narrated by Muslim (1893).
