As we stand at the close of another year, it’s natural to reflect on our journey—where we started, the challenges we faced, and how far we’ve come. Some of us may feel a sense of accomplishment, while others may feel regret or weariness. Wherever you find yourself, the question we must all ask is: “Are we finishing strong?

Join us for our Sunday evening sermon titled “Finish String” (29 December 2024) at 1755.
Scripture: II Timothy 4.7-8

All are welcome to attend in person at Calvary Baptist Church of Cardiff (meeting at The Maes-y-Coed Community Centre, 1 Jubilee Gardens, Cardiff CF14 4PP) or live FB (-calvarybapistchurch).

Luke 2:11 “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.”
A favourite Christmas hymn written in 1871, by William Chatterton Dix called “What Child Is This” asks this question:
What child is this
Who lay to rest
On Mary’s lap is sleeping

The question is “Who is this child?” There is one right answer. This, this is Christ the KING! He is the Saviour! That’s who He is: “a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord.”

Join us for our Sunday morning sermon titled “As Bethlehem Slept” (15 December 2024) at 1755.
Scripture: Luke 2:11

All are welcome to attend in person at Calvary Baptist Church of Cardiff (meeting at The Maes-y-Coed Community Centre, 1 Jubilee Gardens, Cardiff CF14 4PP) or live FB (-calvarybapistchurch).

All through Paul’s journeys we find religious groups withstanding the preaching of the gospel by stirring up the people… We must come to terms with stirring ourselves with the idea of fighting against cold, dead religion seeking to deter the truth of precious gospel. We must awaken and embrace the battle of faith in a fallen world.

Imagine with me, if we could get our churches back to the first century, back to a mindset where every little thing wasn’t placed in front of Jesus Christ. Back to a time when everything else came second place to church, the Bible, prayer, witnessing… you know THE Christian life.

The Apostle Paul is revisiting the mission field. And he comes to Miletus and there he gathers with him the Ephesian elders.
They talk about the good times that they had together, how God had blessed; how the Lord poured out His blessing.

Join us for our Sunday evening sermon titled “A Lasting Impact” | Part 1 (10 November 2024) at 1755.

We all have different journeys we take in life, through bad times and good, but one thing is sure – if the Lord Jesus Christ is with us through the journey, we will make it through. Some people experience emotional pain differently than others, whilst others are seemingly immune, however the reality of life is we all have emotional weakness and struggles in this life.
Johns Hopkins Medical School has found that 70% of disease is psychosomatic. What does that mean? The word psyche means “the mind,” and soma is “the body.” This is not to say that 70% of diseases are not real, but rather that the origin of these diseases is not found in a physical cause. The origin, in nature, first occurred in the mind. As a person begins to harbour and foster negative thoughts in the mind, these manifest into the body. Thoughts have the ability to make us well or to poison the body. Negative thoughts weaken the immune system and poison the bloodstream.

Several years ago, Stanford University found over 2000 different chemical secretions that were released into the body, from the brain into the bloodstream, which were all based on a person’s thoughts – good or bad.

When we analysed each step or our emotional struggle, the cause and effect, if you will.
The Lord highlights the area of our thought life. Especially with this foundational Bible verse: Proverbs 23:7 “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he…”

The battle, every day, is in the mind. This battlefield is filled with the bones of imaginary issues, problems and perditions. But when we do these things, when we apply the Scripture, better yet, when we practice the Scriptures great things happen… Freedom happens, liberty comes forth, true happiness is found when we cut loose from the weights of worry and anxiousness of this life.

Join us for our Sunday evening sermon titled “The Battle For The mind” Part 2 (27 October 2024) at 1755.
Scripture: Philippians 4.4-11

Not everyone struggles with their mental health, of course, and not all who struggle do so in the same way. But statistics indicate that one in five adults worldwide suffers from a mental health issue.
In our congregations, places of work, schools, and among families and friends, there are people for whom the question ‘how long?’ is a pressing one, for whom the world is a threatening and unsafe place, and where the absence of God feels far stronger than His presence. What does speaking of ‘good news’ mean when we or those around us are struggling?
Jesus promises* I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.’ It’s easy to feel a sense of disconnection with an abundant life when you struggle with crippling anxiety, trauma, or any other form of poor mental health. It’s easy sometimes to simply focus on one aspect of Jesus’ teaching – that ‘abundant life’ – when things are going well, and struggle with ‘taking up your cross’ when life is more challenging.

Experience is born from tribulation, which is defined as pressure and trials. Peter’s own mistakes have taught him a great deal about experience.

We need the knowledge; yes, we must grow in knowledge, but by the time Peter writes this letter, he is placing grace first and foremost.

Knowledge will only get you so far; knowledge will not get you through the tribulations.

Jesus, in His earthly life, long before His ministry made choices which would one day support His ministry. He made choices so to keep Him from being an outcast or limiting His mighty work. He made choices to protect His reputation and testimony as well as the reputation and testimony of His family.

Jesus lived 33.5 years, not incredibly long according to today’s standards. But the life expectancy in the days of Christ was 40-50 years, so at the age of 33 would be comparative to 65 today.

Our life, especially our early life is likened unto a box, a box which includes our opportunities in life. This box will only move in the direction of our choices. Jesus’ box moved according to choices He made,

07/09/2024

Within the 100 words of Psalm 23, which are only six verses, we learn a lifetime of information. The psalm itself opens with “LORD” and ends with “FOREVER.” There isn’t a greater teaching for us today than to know that our Lord and Saviour, our Great Shepherd, will be with us forever—He will never leave us or forsake us. Jesus Christ is not just a shepherd, but the Sovereign Saviour of the world; He is the good Shepherd, the great Shepherd, and the greatest Shepherd. Despite all this, He is ‘our’ shepherd—the same Lord who created the heavens and the earth is also our protector, provider, and healer. He is our righteousness; He is our Shepherd.

We must learn to trust the Shepherd to find that setting in the midst of varying perplexities and possibilities. It’s important to understand the difference between perplexities and possibilities. Both are problematic for us, but a perplexity is something that’s happening to me right now. A possibility is something that I fear may happen in the future.
