From the Archives: Stories in Glass

Morris window with Christ in the centre

It was John Pollard Seddon, John Prichard’s architectural partner between 1852 and 1862, who provided the link, through his brother Thomas, which brought the Pre-Raphaelites into the restoration at Llandaff. Five windows were to figure amongst the legacy of this association all of which were saved from destruction in 1941 by the « Friends » initiative in having them stored. 
These windows were made by Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Co. between 1866 and 1874 using designs by Ford Madox Brown, Edward Burne- Jones and William Morris himself.

Representatives of The Dean and Chapter of Llandaff Cathedral recently travelled to London to attend a very special eucharist with the ordination and consecration of The Venerable Rod Green, formerly Archdeacon of Llandaff to be Bishop of Stepney in the Diocese of London.

The cohort from Llandaff received the warmest of welcomes from the Dean of St Paul’s and the Archbishop of Canterbury. 

We wish Bishop Rod every blessing in his new ministry.

This year His Majesty the King presented the traditional Maundy Money in St Asaph Cathedral. Myra Jenkins, our long-standing sacristan at Llandaff Cathedral was nominated to receive it, but because she was unable to get there, the Dean presented her with it on Easter Sunday at the 11am Eucharist, using the King’s words, « Thank you for your service. »

Dean Jason said, « We were asked to nominate unsung heroes, and Myra fitted the bill - she’s hard-working, dedicated and not one for any sort of fuss, so I was delighted to recommend her. »

Eleni cyflwynodd Ei Fawrhydi y Brenin yr a***n Cablyd traddodiadol yn Eglwys Gadeiriol Llanelwy. Cafodd Myra Jenkins, ein sacyrist hirhoedlog yn Eglwys Gadeiriol Llandaf, ei henwebu i’w dderbyn, ond gan nad oedd yn gallu bod yno, cyflwynodd y Deon yr a***n iddi ar Sul y Pasg yn yr Ewcharist am 11.00, gan ddefnyddio geiriau’r Brenin: “Diolch am eich gwasanaeth.”

Dywedodd y Deon Jason: “Cawsom ein gofyn i enwebu arwyr distaw, ac roedd Myra’n addas iawn – mae’n weithgar, yn ymroddedig, ac nid yw’n un am unrhyw ffws, felly roeddwn yn falch iawn o’i hargymell.”
