Today we celebrate the most important and joyful event in history! Jesus Christ lives! He was resurrected - body and spirit reunited and gloriously alive for evermore. And His gift to us is that we will all be resurrected too - “death is conquered, man is free; Christ has won the victory!”

What did Jesus’ followers do the day after his crucifixion? Three traditional observances came together on that unique, sombre day; It was ShIva; it was Shabbat; it was Passover.
During Shiva, family stayed home, lived simply & mourned their newly deceased loved one.
On Shabbat, no work was done, people rested and worshipped God.
At Passover, the release from captivity in Egypt & deliverance from death were celebrated.
Which tradition did Jesus’ disciples prioritise? Mourning, worship or celebration?
Although they perhaps didn’t realise it during this dark day of mourning and (perhaps uncomprehending) worship, a glorious delayed Passover celebration awaited - the literal release from the captivity of sin and death provided by the love of their soon-to-be resurrected Messiah.
They just had to wait one more day, to endure the heartache and look forward to a better dawn. As do we.
