Entries are now open for 'The King's Mile' 🥇🏃

This unique running event through the city of Canterbury returns for its second year on Sunday 28 June!

The route starts from Green Court at the The King's School Canterbury, moving up the King's Mile, going past the Marlowe Theatre, through the city centre and finishes in the grounds of Canterbury Cathedral, running through the iconic Christ Church Gate, with the magnificent building as the backdrop to the finish line.

There will be three main waves, starting from 9.30am: Elite, mass running mile and mass participation mile. In the participation wave, there will be an opportunity to walk a mile with family and friends.

All entries will help support the work of local charity, Catching Lives.

Have you spotted the Cathedral stonemasons at St George's clocktower?

Benn gives us a sneak peek at what the team have been up to - inscribing historic church plans and lettering into the paving stones, as part of Canterbury City Council’s exciting regeneration projects that are taking place across the city.

Greetings to everyone who will celebrate PRIDE on Saturday in Canterbury. We are very glad to welcome all people to be part of our cathedral including members of the LGBTQ+ communities. Each week in church we are reminded to love our neighbours and that remains our solemn commitment to Canterbury. Happy PRIDE!

We're celebrating Volunteers’ Week! 🎉

We caught up with Elle, Volunteer Server and Holy Duster, to hear about her experience:

"As a server I help out during the services either carrying the cross or candles during Evensong. When I’m not serving, I volunteer as a holy duster, helping to clean and polish the cathedral, specifically the Quire and pews, each week.

I’m currently studying history, with a keen interest in gothic architecture, so the cathedral is the perfect place for me to be!

I love the feeling of being part of such a lovely community, and working alongside all these wonderful people who also have a special appreciation for the Cathedral.

I've made friends and connections, but even some of those who I only know in passing greet me like an old friend. ”

Our volunteers give so much to our organisation, without them we wouldn’t be able to do what we do. Thank you to each and every one of you!

On Monday, The Friends of Canterbury Cathedral stopped off on their way to the Isle of Wight to visit Portsmouth Cathedral, also known as ‘The Cathedral of the Sea’.

They received a very warm welcome to this historic 12th century church, which is dedicated to St Thomas of Canterbury.

St Thomas Becket is depicted in the Founders Windows, and the cathedral also features statues of Becket (right) and St Augustine, the first Archbishop of Canterbury (left).
