Canterbury Muslim Community is saddened by the passing of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the former Emir and Father Amir of Qatar, aged 74.

May Allah forgive him, have mercy upon him, grant him Jannatul-Firdaws, and give patience and comfort to his family and the people of Qatar. Ameen.

Please remember him in your duʿās.



His death was announced by Qatar’s Amiri Diwan and reported by Reuters and AP.

Humanity lives!

I lost my new iPhone in Epping town centre. I’d put it on the roof of the car while putting my son in and driven off. Someone found it, figured out who to call, and got a message to me.

I went back to collect it. I told him I’d be ten minutes. Traffic was terrible so I was thirty minutes later than that.

He waited. Even though he had a three hour drive home.

When I got there I asked why he’d waited. He looked at me with a smile. “Because it’s the right thing to do,” he said. “Why wouldn’t I?”

We got talking. He’d just finished his degree - that day - in AI and was looking to find a role in the UK. Twenty four hours later he was in a job interview with a friend of mine that I hooked him up with.

I think about that exchange quite a lot. Not because it was dramatic - it wasn’t. But because it reminded me that most people, given the chance, want to do the right thing. Unconditionally. He didn’t ask for or expect anything. The news doesn’t reflect that particularly well. But real life, in my experience, often does.

And almost always, the person who does you a quiet favour, ends up winning too - sometimes straight away, sometimes through karma coming back in their favour another time. Make friends, help your friends - it’s my favourite philosophy for life and business.

Divorce rates are rising among Muslims and many homes are struggling to create a happy successful Muslim family. This video is in Urdu and it addresses an incredibly useful point - stop taking your knowledge, your information and your understanding of "what is life" from TV series. Unfortunately, tv series especially "dramas" are having an incredibly negative impact on not just children, but even more so on grown up adults.
