đź”´ With the blessing of His Eminence Atanasie, Romanian Orthodox Archbishop of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, on 27 and 28 February, as well as 1 March, the Orthodox Skete in Kent hosted a Byzantine music workshop dedicated to deepening the interpretation of the Paschal hymns and to the liturgical formation of the participants.
The event, organised in a spirit of service and responsibility towards the Church’s liturgical tradition, welcomed as special guest University Lecturer Adrian Sârbu, who led with dedication the study and practical music sessions, offering participants both solid theoretical foundations and careful practical guidance for an authentic and conscious interpretation.
During the workshop, a methodical interpretation was undertaken of the hymns “The Angel Cried”, “The Day of Resurrection” and “Christ is Risen”, also rehearsed in English, in order to emphasise the importance of faithfully conveying the theological message within the context of Orthodox communities in the diaspora. Particular emphasis was placed on understanding the liturgical text, cultivating expressiveness, and observing the interpretative rigour specific to the Byzantine tradition.
The programme concluded on Saturday evening with the Vigil Service — Vespers and Matins — during which the participants offered the responses at the kliros in antiphonal form, putting into practice what they had studied and contributing to the beauty and solemnity of the service.
