Cannock Citadel Band is the band of The Salvation Army in Cannock. We support in worship weekly and share our faith through music in our community.

Bringing hope, encouragement, and the message of Jesus through every note we play.

Tuesday 1st September 2026 Practice …

Our first practice after the August break.

The warm up piece tonight started our Christmas warm-up by playing the ‘Carol’ “Jesus Good Above All Other”. Anna then opened in prayer.

Tonight we welcomed members of our neighbouring Hednesford Band to practice and it’s always good to see them join us.

Pieces ran through during the night were:
•We Shall Come Rejoicing
•Saviours Day
•Carol of the Bells
•Joy of Christmas.

Chris is taking the band on Sunday, and ran through Ray Steadman-Allen’s arrangement of “Be Still”.

Our Epilogue tonight centred around the classic selection ‘The Light of the World’. The picture of Christ knocking at the door was circulated around the band, along with the associated words. We were asked to consider our feelings about Jesus being at our door, and knocking to come in.

Samuel then ran through “The Light of the World” and the March - Blaze.

Keith finished practice off with the march, and one of his many favourites “Emblem of the Army” by Arthur Gullidge.

Bob closed in prayer.

You may have noticed that we have been quiet on our Band page, this is because we have been enjoying our summer ☀️break and holiday ✈️

Members of the band have enjoyed some time off school, university, work and have been enjoying time away with family and friends.
We meet tonight for our first practice and we ask for your prayers as we meet with different circumstances that we are going through.

Although at times depleted, we have been able to accompany hymns and provide a piece in our Sunday services during August, we have been grateful and blessed.

Today we share a video that was recorded when we led our worship in July. It is entitled ‘Donegal Bay’ composed by Paul Lovatt-Cooper, arr by Samuel Shelley, with the words associated with the Songster piece ‘Simple Prayer’.

As you take time in prayer or quiet reflection, we pray that you will become close to God and that he will continue to provide and sustain you.

Tuesday 28th July 2026 Practice …

The warm up piece tonight was Hymn Tune Arrangement of “Lloyd”. Gareth then opened practice in prayer.

Tonight we welcomed Adi, Brian, Chelsea and Nathan to play with us. Along with them, other visitors also included: Ali, Marian, Sandra, Glenn and Mandy.

Tonight was our last practice before the summer break. So we got all of the ‘favourite’ books out, and everyone was invited to pick their favourite - red, green, blue, grey and rainbow colours.

Julie interviewed Anna tonight as part of our Epilogue series. Here we heard of the great work that the Team are doing trying to build Messy Church, God Squad and Blast here in Cannock.
The Band were asked to continue with their love and support of our youngsters, then Chris prayed for Anna and the Team.

Keith again finished practice, this time with Chelsea’s favourite (blue book) March “Montreal Citadel”.

Dave then asked Glenn to come and close practice in prayer.

Last Sunday we led worship for the first time in a new rota we have in place due to having no Officers at the moment.

Our Bible reading was around the story of ‘The Prodigal Son’ which was delivered by a small drama 🎭

We had two short sermons delivered by Bob and then Josh on their thoughts on the Bible reading and the story.

Members of the band introduced songs, offered prayers, played for songs & band piece, took part in the drama or delivered the sermons.

We pray that those who came on Sunday received a blessing and gave them something to think about as they went home 🙏🏻

Tuesday 21st July 2026 Practice …

The warm up piece tonight was Kenneth Cook’s “Llanfair” and Lorna then opened in prayer.

Tonight we welcomed Lorna (Horn) and Brian (Drums) to practice.
Along with them, other visitors also included Pat, Marian, Stuart, Kathy and Sandra.

*Next week is our last practice before we break up for Summer. You are welcome to come to play or to listen*

A special visitor was also with us, with young Harry conducting the Band through practice.

We asked Cheryl to practice tonight to talk to us about the Over 60’s Thursday ‘Club’ that happens in our building every Thursday.
It was lovely to hear the great work that is continuing, and also how the Band can support that. This included helping with a Christmas party, and visiting local residential complexes.
Don prayed for Cheryl, and for the prospects of the future.

Keith finished with one of Brian Dark’s favourite (red book) marches “Anthem of the Free”by Dean Goffin.
(The band really enjoyed this one)

Important Announcement 📣

Congratulations to Dave and Samuel in being commissioned as Cannock Citadel Band’s new Bandmaster and Deputy Bandmaster respectively 🥳

Dave was commissioned a few weeks ago by Major Gary, our previous Corps Officer (Church Leader) and Samuel was commissioned on Sunday by Retired Bandmaster Keith as we are without Corps Officers at the moment.

We thought it would be a good idea to share some information about them both and for you to get to know them a bit better 😀

Please welcome them and send a message of encouragement to them both as they start their new positions in the band 🙏🏻

Tuesday 14th July 2026 Practice …

The warm up piece tonight was Kenneth Cook’s “Llanfair”, before Bob opened in prayer.

We welcomed Ruth to practice on the Horn section tonight, along visitors Ally, Stuart and Kathy.
If anyone would like to play or listen during July, Tuesdays at 7:30, you are welcome.

Samuel is being commissioned as Deputy BM on Sunday, and will take the Band.
He went through the following:

•SB Zephaniah’s Song,
and also a couple of old Tunes for Sunday’s meeting - There is Sunshine and Ring the bell watchman.

Our last ‘guest’ to practice was on 9th June so after a few weeks without one we had two tonight!
We asked Marian & Brian to come tonight to talk to us about the Thursday ‘Coffee Drop Inn’ scheme. It was very encouraging to hear how this community is growing over the past few years and the impact it is having on people.
Louise prayed for them both, and the continued success and blessings that are coming out of the venture.

Keith finished practice with one of his favourites from the ‘Rainbow’ marches which was “Danforth Citadel”.

Kathy who is our Songster Leader (Choir Leader) at Cannock closed in prayer.
