Residents of the village you may have noticed we have new external lighting in place!!

We would like to thank 2 very kind local residents (who wish to be anon) in making this happen!

The old expensive Halogen lights have been replaced with new efficient LED floodlights. As you can see in the pics and they are considerably bright in comparison to to the old ones’ .

These were provided and installed free of charge by one benefactor, and our other benefactor is continuing to support the energy costs of these going forward.

This all taking place has provoked us to review st Nicholas’ energy usage which also has had an overhaul - so this has been very beneficial all round!

On the other side of this, for the first time in many years we have not had the full financial support this year from the parish council to support the upkeep of the churchyard and have only been able to give us £100 for the maintenance of the churchyard - due to their own cuts, this is extremely unfortunate and with this in mind we would like to thank Vic Newby who sadly we must let go.

But we wish to give him thanks and acknowledging what was always a big task and which he has done an amazing job on over the last few years, going above and beyond what was needed, gradually pushing back against the shrubbery that slowly enveloped certain spaces, and that has revealed old graves and all sorts!

We must look at other means now to keep on top of the grounds but also in the autumn we aim rustle up a one off party of volunteers !!!!! for a few hours to attack overgrown or unwanted plants in the grounds - or anyone who wants to come along and support by making tea! All welcome … and we will let you know more of this as the summer passes.

But for the time being the PCC blesses and thanks, all those who past and present have supported St Nicholas church Canewdon. ❣️

You Do Not Have to Carry Everything Alone

Many people keep moving forward while carrying an invisible weight. Responsibilities, worries, inner struggles that no one else sees.

When you try to carry everything alone, the soul grows tired.

But Jesus never intended for you to go through life alone.

John 14:16 says: “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to help you and be with you forever.” (NIV)

The Holy Spirit comes to support, comfort, and guide.

He is not a distant idea. He is a real presence in the believer’s life.

Jesus also says: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28 - NIV)

You do not have to carry alone what is crushing you.

Today, place that burden before God. Let Him help you carry what feels too heavy.

Pray…

Lord, I give You what weighs me down.
Teach me not to carry everything alone anymore.
Let Your rest fill my heart.❣️

Sunday is coming…
Jesus received 39 stripes because 40 was known to kill a man. They wanted Him alive. They held handfuls of His beard, and hair and pulled it out by the roots. They wanted Him alive. They kicked, punched, and spit on Him for hours. Until there wasn't a single spot on His body not covered in blood. They wanted Him alive.

They shoved a crown of thorns down on His head so harshly it stuck in His skin. They wanted Him alive. After hours of being beaten, mocked, whipped, flogged, and tortured they made Him walk with a cross. A rough piece of wood digging into His fresh wounds. They wanted Him alive.

They wanted Him to feel every ounce of pain they could bring. He had to feel it in order to heal us.
Most of us cannot mentally think of the crucifixion because the cruelty of it isn't normal. It isn't something our minds can comprehend. We celebrate Easter with pastel colors. Truth is, there was absolutely nothing happy about the day Jesus died. It was cruel, bloody, and nasty.

He could have stopped all of it. He could have called every angel in heaven to demolish every person standing and shouting "Crucify Him!" He didn't. He knew in order to have a Sunday you have to have a Friday. He felt everything that day.
He felt how your heart broke wide open when you had to watch your baby die.
He felt how heavy your life was when you were staring down the barrel of a gun wondering if the man was going to shoot you.
He carried the weight of the burden you have felt since your spouse died, or left you, and life just doesn't seem right since.

Jesus leveled every playing field and said ALL of you are worth it.
He knew he had to carry the cross.
He never promised the cross you carry in this life would not be heavy.

His promise is that Sunday is coming.

No matter how heavy Friday is…financially, emotionally, mentally, or physically. Friday is heavy. That cross is weighing you down and you are about to crumble under its weight.
His promise was simply this: He won't make you carry it alone. What kind of king would step down from his throne for this?

Jesus of Nazareth, the Son of God did. For you. So…look up, because Sunday is coming.
