Sin rarely introduces itself as a prison. It usually arrives looking like freedom.
It tells you that obedience is restrictive, discipline is boring, and denying yourself means you are missing out. So you keep feeding the habit because, for a while, it feels like you are the one in control.
Then one day you decide you want to stop.
That is when you discover how much control it has gained over you.
The temptation you thought you could walk away from starts pulling harder. The habit you called harmless starts demanding more. What once felt like a choice begins to feel like a chain.
This is why Jesus does not call us away from sin to rob us of freedom. He calls us away from sin because He knows where it eventually leads.
Sin promises freedom and produces slavery. Christ calls for surrender and gives freedom.
Do not wait until the chains become heavy before you recognize them.
