Look closely at our window of St Benedict and you’ll see a at his feet. Do you know why? It’s a good story to remember as we get ready to take part in this year’s Cambridge with network churches:
It’s a story about how God calls us healthy, loving communities, welcoming those from the margins and outside our own churches. And how God sets us free from malice and fear.
St. Benedict’s monastery was built next to a great forest. Every day, a raven living in the forest flew into the dining room and alighted next to Benedict and share his meal.
The story goes that a priest, jealous of Benedict and his community which ‘welcomed all as Christ’ poisoned Benedict’s bread. But the raven, loving Benedict, flew off with the poisoned bread, and hid it in the forest.
Being loving and generous towards those around us, we allow God to work in our lives in beautiful and wonderful ways!
