Calvary Chapel Cambridge

Calvary Chapel Cambridge Jesus said:

"I will build My church…" (Matt. 16:18) "…If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed."

We believe that true and abundant life begins by believing in the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary and continues by having an authentic abiding relationship with Christ! (John 8:31) "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations…" (Matt. 28:19) "…You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me…" (Acts 1:8) "Let your light so s

hine before men, that they will see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven." (Matt. 5:16) "And behold I am coming quickly, and My reward is with me..." (Rev. 22:12)

Therefore, as believers in Christ, we believe it all begins with the teachings of Christ, and from these teachings we have formed this vision statement. VISION STATEMENT: We want to see people become authentic followers of Jesus Christ, feeding on His Word and being filled with His Spirit, making disciples to the glory and praise of God. We seek to make this vision a reality by:

KNOWING Jesus personally → Devotion

GROWING in Jesus corporately → Fellowship

SHOWING Jesus openly to all → Witness

Our GOD-GIVEN BURDEN for AUTHENTICITY:

THE CENTRALITY OF JESUS CHRIST – We desire to live for Jesus, to make much of Jesus, and to keep Christ Jesus in the centre of all that we say and do under His Lordship. (Col. 1:18, 2:9-10, Phil. 1:21, John 10:10)
THE CONTINUOUS FEEDING ON GOD’S WORD - We desire the Word of Christ to dwell in us richly and to hold fast the word of life, by studying and learning the whole counsel of God’s Word and living it out by faith. (John 8:31, Col. 3:16, Acts 20:27, Phil. 2:16)
THE FULL RELIANCE ON THE HOLY SPIRIT - We seek to be continually filled and led by the Spirit, overflowing with His love, and living in His strength and power. (Eph. 5:18, Gal. 5:22,25, Rom. 5:5, 8:14, 2 Cor. 4:7)
THE SINCERE LOVE OF THE BRETHREN - We seek to humbly serve and edify one another toward faith and maturity in Christ, in sincere love of all the brethren by God’s grace. (John 13:34-35, 3 John 5, 1 Peter 4:8)
THE ACTIVE PARTICIPATION OF THE WHOLE BODY – We seek to make room for the whole body of Christ where each member functions, serves, and has a voice to edify. (Eph. 4:15-16, 1 Cor. 12, Heb. 10:24-25)
THE OVERFLOWING WITNESS OF EVERY BELIEVER - We seek to prayerfully and intentionally reach people for Christ in our spheres of influence as we shine His light, show His love, and share His truth from the inside out. (Matt. 5:16, Rom. 5:5, John 15:10-12, 2 Cor. 2:14)
We seek to maintain a healthy balance of learning God’s WORD and yielding to His SPIRIT, which we believe are the two foundational pillars to a Christ-centered life, full of grace and truth. We are living in a generation that seems to be tolerant of anything and everything but Christ. The Bible teaches us that in the last days people will be "lovers of themselves" and "of pleasure rather than lovers of God" and "always learning but never able to come to the knowledge of the truth" (2 Tim. 3:1-7). This is surely an opportune time to live wholeheartedly for Jesus Christ. As Jeremiah said in his day, we need to recognize "the broken cisterns that cannot hold water" (empty religion) and return to "the Fountain of Life" (Jesus) (Jer. 2:13), that we, and others, may "taste and see that the Lord is good" (Psalm 34:8).

HOLY WEEK: DAY 8…

Resurrection Sunday

The Garden Tomb in Jerusalem, believed to be the burial place of Jesus.

On Resurrection Sunday, or Easter, we reach the culmination of Holy Week. The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the most important event of the Christian faith. The very foundation of all Christian doctrine hinges on the truth of this account.

Early Sunday morning, several women (Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Salome, and Mary the mother of James) went to the tomb and discovered that the large stone covering the entrance had been rolled away. An angel announced:

“Don’t be afraid! I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead, just as he said would happen.” (Matthew 28:5-6, NLT)

On the day of his resurrection, Jesus Christ made at least five appearances. Mark’s Gospel says the first person to see him was Mary Magdalene. Jesus also appeared to Peter, to the two disciples on the road to Emmaus, and later that day to all of the disciples except Thomas, while they were gathered in a house for prayer.

The eyewitness accounts in the Gospels provide what Christians believe to be undeniable evidence that the resurrection of Jesus Christ did indeed happen. Two millennia after his death, followers of Christ still flock to Jerusalem to see the empty tomb.

Sunday’s events are recorded in Matthew 28:1-13, Mark 16:1-14, Luke 24:1-49, and John 20:1-23.
