"Rejoice, O Jerusalem; and gather round, all you who love her; rejoice in gladness, after having been in sorrow; exult and be replenished with the consolation flowing from her motherly bosom."

This is the text of the introit antiphon for this Sunday (4th week of Lent) also known as Laetare Sunday. A fitting text for this Sunday of celebration amidst our Lenten penance and sacrifices, where we rejoice that Easter is within sight. At the 9.30 Latin Mass, we are also celebrating the confirmation of a number of students on this date, and we rejoice at welcoming them into the Church.

This week, the Schola will chant the propers from the Graduale, including extra verses in the Offertorium 'Laudate Dominum'. During communion, we will sing the Motet 'O bone Iesu', attributed to Palestrina, which pleads Christ for mercy through the blood of His sacrifice.

The mass will be Missa XVII, as last week. We hope to see you at the 9.30 Latin Mass at Fisher House 🎵🎶

This year, to mark the Solemnity of St. Joseph on the 19th March, the Schola will be singing the evening hours of the Divine office. As we anticipate this, we look back to the start of Lent, when some members of the Schola spent the day praying the 8 monastic hours of the Divine Office, according to the 1962 Breviary.

The first 3 hours (Matins, Lauds, Prime) were prayed before the Blessed Sacrament as part of Fisher House's 40-hour devotion, and were well attended. The little hours were prayed elsewhere, with None on a football pitch! The day was closed with Vespers and Compline in Magdalene Chapel.

The office contains some of the most beautiful Gregorian chant, from Hymns to antiphons and psalm tones. We look forward the Solemnity for St. Joseph, with more details to follow, but in the meantime, enjoy some photos from Matins and Compline!

"My eyes are ever toward the Lord, for he shall pluck my feet out of the snare."
Thus begins the introit for this coming Sunday - the third week in Lent.

The Schola is excited to sing 'Parce Mihi, Domine' by Cristobal de Morales as our communion motet. The text, taken from the book of Job, as found at Matins in the office of the dead, laments a life of sin and pleads to God for forgiveness. As usual, we will also chant the propers, and the Mass will be Missa XVII.

Make sure to leave extra time to get to the 9.30 Latin Mass this week, as many roads are closed for the Cambridge half-marathon!

A moving and fitting celebration of an extraordinary person, who meant so much to so many, including to us at the Schola and our friends at the The Chapel Choir. Thank you so much to all the wonderful singers who could join us, many of whom were Schola and Chapel Choir members old and new.

Happy Ascensiontide! While the weather might not be as radiant as the season demands, there are some real gems in the music for this Sunday. For today's 6pm Sung Latin Mass we will sing the beautiful chant 'Alleluia: Non vos relinquam orphanos' ('Alleluia: I shall not leave you orphans') - particularly good to hear in the face of upcoming exams! No sign-up needed, so we look forward to seeing you there!
