Downing Place United Reformed Church

Downing Place United Reformed Church Friendly, inclusive United Reformed Church in the centre of Cambridge. We strive to be a community that reflects God’s radical love, welcoming to all.

Committed to building up people in faith and in following Christ, we are an open and inclusive church in the centre of Cambridge. Downing Place URC was formed in June 2018 from the union of Emmanuel and St Columba's United Reformed Churches, and the redeveloped St Columba's site on Downing Place will become the springboard for our renewed mission in the heart of Cambridge. Our worship is marked by

a sense of reverence and of joy, drawing on the riches of the Reformed tradition of liturgy and preaching, with a special appreciation of music. We foster an intelligent and non-judgmental environment for exploring faith, seeking to live out this faith in a commitment to social justice.

Praying for all those packing up and heading to Greenbelt this weekend! 🏕️🙏🏻🏕️

The Greenbelt Festival takes place this weekend and members of the URC will be very busy there staffing the URC's cafe tent, alongside the Trussell Trust, for festival goers. Roo Stewart, URC Head of Public Issues, will be leading our team there and offers this prayer for public and personal use:

God who journeys with us,
thank you for Greenbelt Festival 2026 in all its variety, and its invitation to “Let it all go”.
We ask you to hold the URC’s presence there in your care.
May we and our tent partners, Trussell, share your love for all who attend with generosity and joy.

Protect and strengthen our volunteer team who will offer their time and talents in familiar or new ways.
Guide those who will plan, prepare and serve food in the café, and bless their work of hospitality.
Inspire with creativity those who lead the programme: speakers, musicians, artists and facilitators.
May their work open hearts, stir imagination, and create space for honest faith and hopeful conversation.

We pray for all who will gather to eat with us or engage with the programme:
may they find welcome, curiosity and moments of deep encounter with you.
For those who come on their own, help them find kindred spirits.
For those who come carrying heavy burdens, may this festival be a place of release and restoration.
Be especially close to the children and families who attend:
may their experience be safe and filled with friendship and delight.

In every conversation, performance and act of service, may your Spirit move freely.
Teach us all what it means to let things go,
and to trust more deeply in you at each stage of our journey.

We ask these things in the name of Jesus,
who calls us into freedom and new life.
Amen
