Weekly message from Alastair, one if the elders at Cairneyhill Church..

Today, Sunday, the Cairneyhill Gala BBQ is being held in the church garden. Maybe you're a master chef or a disaster chef. Never mind, just throw another steak on the barbie!

BBQs remind me of one particular BBQ on the beach. After Jesus' death and resurrection, some of his disciples decide to go fishing. They see a figure on the shore asking if they have caught anything (which they haven't). "Throw your nets over the right side of the boat." They do and can't haul the net in because it's so heavy. Yes, miracles do happen!

It's then that they recognise Jesus - alive! There he is, cooking fish over hot coals with bread on the side. "Come and have breakfast!"
Give God thanks for the food you have - and for the living Jesus!

Hope that everyone has fun in the upcoming Gala week and thank you to all those who are involved in organising this fantastic week for our village.

TRY PRAYING

27 MILLION adults in the UK PRAY. 10 MILLION PRAY regularly. Half of those who PRAY believe GOD hears their PRAYERS. Of people who say they are NOT RELIGIOUS 1 in 5 PRAY.

NEED HELP? People with health scares and worry about relationships and the future. People stress about money and suffer from depression. You could find the help you have been missing

MISSING SOMETHING? Even with a full life we can feel empty and wonder if there is more to life than this. You could begin the adventure of a lifetime.

CURIOUS? You don’t have to have a problem to PRAY. Many people simply want to know if there is something that can make sense of life. You could discover new possibilities.

REASONS? The morning of a job interview. The night when a family member is sick. The five minutes before the exam. Most people have prayed in moments of desperation. Was someone listening?
Was the PRAYER answered?

People have found PRAYING HELPS and have had answers. YOU can find out if someone does listen and care.
PRAYER is a conversation with GOD. You don’t need to use special words or a special voice. You can PRAY can pray out loud or silently. GOD knows what you think and is aware of all you do. You can talk to HIM about anything.

As this Sunday is the 5th Sunday in May, the Sunday service will be at Limekilns Parish Church at 10.30am.
The format of the Service is Cafe Church. This is an informal, relaxed approach to worship that typically takes place in a coffee shop setting or a church hall arranged with tables, rather than traditional rows of pews. It focuses on community, conversation, and hospitality alongside faith.
Looking forward to sharing the Word with our friends from Limekilns. ☕️✝️⛪️

Message from Irene, one of the Church Elders.

This week the Church of Scotland General Assembly gathered under the theme “Walk in All His Ways” — encouraging churches and communities to move forward with faith, courage and hope.

The General Assembly is the national governing meeting of the Church of Scotland, held annually in Edinburgh, where ministers and representatives from churches across the country come together to discuss the future direction of the Church, worship, community work and important issues affecting Scotland.

The new Moderator of the General Assembly, Rev Gordon Kennedy, spoke about the importance of compassion, service and supporting communities through changing times. He encouraged Christians to be confident and bold in their faith, continuing to serve their communities with kindness, justice and hope.

One of the strongest messages from the Assembly was that while the Church may need to change and adapt for modern times, it should not lose heart or confidence in its mission.

There was also discussion around the “Quiet Revival” — the growing interest in faith and church life amongst younger generations — alongside the importance of prayer, discipleship and outward-facing churches that welcome and support people of all ages.

Message from Irene, one of our Elders.

This week is Christian Aid Week — a time to come together as a community and support people across the world who are facing poverty, hunger and the effects of climate change. This year’s theme focuses on helping communities build hope and a future through practical support, including projects helping families grow food and escape poverty.

A huge thank you to everyone who supported last week’s coffee morning, where £257 was raised for Christian Aid. Your generosity and support will help make a real difference to people and communities who need it most.

Cairneyhill has always been a community that supports others, and Christian Aid Week is a reminder that even small acts of kindness and generosity can have a lasting impact. By supporting fundraising events, donating or helping spread awareness, we can help bring hope and support to all communities facing hardship around the world.

At a time when many people are facing challenges both locally and globally, Christian Aid Week reminds us of the importance of compassion, community and looking out for one another. Every act of support can help change lives. ❤️
