In a contentious world that feels increasingly dangerous, with war and civil upheaval growing more ‘normal’, the oceans warming and the glaciers melting, how do we calm things, what are our responsibilities, and response? Ezekiel warns us not to try to duck the issue, nor does Jesus let us hide our heads or shy away. Rather he charges us with the same responsibility as Peter, to bind and to loose. ‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself’, or as Jesus loves us, into heaven.

Hero to Zero: Saint Peter, who got it so right last Sunday, gets it all so wrong today: ‘This shall never happen to you!’ Perhaps we all want to protect Jesus, keep him safe, different from us. But Jesus tells us we are no different – we also have to take up our cross, lose ‘our’ life to be able to find it in him, and share in his glory. A strange deception, that puts an ache for God deep in our bones, presenting our ‘bodies as a living sacrifice’, the only way to discern ‘what is good and acceptable and perfect’.
