Burwell Baptist Church

Burwell Baptist Church We are a group of Christians that God has brought together at one of the three churches in the village of Burwell in Cambridgeshire.

Our vision is to make the love of God known to all regardless of age or background. Our prayer is to discover how this might be done through the way we live and how we might serve our community. Christianity is about a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus & about relationships with others too. There is a strong emphasis on 'being family together' and looking out for each other. So we meet tog

ether socially as well as for 'church' activities. God has blessed us with growth over recent years & that has meant exciting developments not only for our church buildings but also in discovering how to build each other up, using the God-given gifts & talents among us. We are people whose lives have been touched and changed by the love of God, which we have found in Jesus Christ. Jesus can be a real friend - someone who gives peace and strength for daily living and hope for the life to come. We warmly invite you come along to any of our activities or contact us for more information.

Everyone has a favourite painting, whether you’re interested in art or not, a picture that you can admire and try to understand the artist’s intention. Something that reveals part of their nature. How amazing would it be if you could actually meet with the artist and understand their true character and intention? Paul says in his letter to the Romans that by admiring God’s handiwork in nature His eternal power and divine nature are revealed to us, but only when we converse and meet with God do we begin to understand His true nature. Chris speaks on how we should move from simply admiring the world that God has created to being in true relationship with Him, only then will He be fully revealed to us.

Karen leads the rest of the service whilst Pete leads our sung worship this week.

No evening activities this Sunday, please join us as always at our various activities through the week and again next Sunday from 10:30, in the building or live on YouTube.

Throughout this year we’ve been thinking about the river of God flowing from the temple in Ezekiel’s vision. Well, Pentecost was day 1 of that prophecy coming true. The Spirit came in power on the disciples in the upper room and flowed out through them into the people of Jerusalem. Chris reminds us that we are called to be continually filled with the God’s Holy Spirit and let the Spirit flow through us and into our communities today, just as he did all those centuries ago.

Susan leads the rest of the service whilst Pete and Nick lead our sung worship.

Please stay safe in the heat this week and we'll see you all back safe and sound next Sunday from 10:30am.

Thank You for a Fantastic Community Day! 🌟
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our Community Day on 9 May to celebrate our 175 birthday. We had a truly wonderful time—glorious weather, a fantastic BBQ, and incredible support from our local community groups made it a day to remember!
But the celebrations don’t stop there… we’re now looking ahead and beginning preparations for our upcoming Anniversary Service.
We would love to reconnect with as many past members of our community as possible, including those who were part of Girls’ Brigade, Boys’ Brigade, and YPF, as well as any former members. If that’s you—or someone you know—please get in touch. We’d be delighted to have you involved in this special occasion.
Let’s make our anniversary celebration just as memorable! 💙

As Chris is away this week we have Kevin Burdett bringing God’s word to us and he speaks on the Kingdom of God growing in the dark. Just like the seeds that a farmer plants in the ground sometimes it may appear that nothing is happening, however what we fail to see is what is happening underneath the surface. The seed has sprouted, strong roots are developing and when the timing is right the shoots will begin to show. How do we stay close to God in the times where we’re waiting for those shoots to appear from the ground?

Andy leads the rest of the service whilst Mike leads our sung worship for this week.

Table Talk is back this evening at half past 5, where we will be discussing forgiveness. Please join if you can, otherwise see you at the events through the week and - of course - next Sunday from 10:30.

Following on from our amazing Anniversary Community Day yesterday Ant leads our all age service for May by taking us back to the Sunday Schools of his youth. There’s even a sword drill or two! But there is also a serious point: by looking back into our own church history we can see God’s stream of living water giving nourishment and we can have no doubt that he will continue to do so through us for many years to come.

Pete and Nick lead our sung worship this week.

No evening service this week, and I think after yesterday we all need an evening off! See you through the week and next Sunday from 10:30am.

In first century Judea a cross was not generally something talked about in polite conversation, let alone boasted about. Yet through Jesus' victory Paul says that he (and by extension we) can boast in the achievement of the cross. As we continue our starting with God series Chris examines Jesus' victory, the turning of a symbol of terror and oppression into a symbol of hope and how we can still see God's glory through the cross.

Karen leads the rest of the service as we have our first update from May's mission of the month, AIM, and Pete and Nick lead our sung worship.

This evening we have our evening Communion/sharing service led by Graham at 6:30, no prayer meeting tomorrow due to the Bank Holiday but all our usual activities happening throughout the rest of the week culminating in our Anniversary Community Day next Saturday from 1:00pm. Please join us as we continue to celebrate!
