We run practical meditation sessions: no need to book, free 15min drop-in every Wednesday & Thursday. Burnley Kadampa Buddhist Centre is a Meditation Centre based in Burnley, UK. We offer weekly meditation classes to help people develop peace of mind as well as weekend courses and events. Everyone is welcome to attend these. The Centre has a cafe area which serves hot and cold drinks and snacks. Schools and groups also visit the centre to learn more about Buddhism.

You are invited to slow down and discover inner peace with guided meditation at a woodland retreat. 🌳

During this Retreat, we will focus on simple meditations for developing inner peace. 😌 The retreat is held at Woodsworth Exploring, Bandshaw Plantation a woodland campsite in Oakworth, Keighley and the sessions will be held outdoors. A simple shelter is available if needed. Between the sessions and after the retreat, there will be time to explore the woodland. 🌳

You will need to bring a 🪑 chair or other seat, a blanket and sandwich 🥪 packed lunch. ☕️ Tea will be brewed on an open fire during the lunch break but you will need to bring a ☕️ mug or- if you prefer - bring your own refreshments for the breaks. There is parking 🚘 onsite, although it is limited, so car sharing is encouraged where possible. There are toilets 🚽 on site.

The cost of the day retreat is £20 (Centre Membership Scheme £15).

NEW SERIES OF MEDITATION CLASSES STARTING THIS WEEK IN BURNLEY.

Learn how to calm your mind and live a happier, more meaningful life.
Enjoy one of our meditation classes this week.

The new series is called “Healthier, happier you” . All classes are stand-alone, and available to all. You can attend as few or as many classes as you want. This week’s class is called “Giving and Accepting”

This class runs every week in person at Burnley Kadampa Buddhist Centre, Parker Street, Burnley BB11 1AR, Wednesdays 11am and 7pm, and Thursdays 11am.
We are now live streaming 4 classes per week, available for our monthly members.

Explore effective meditations and positive approaches to overcome stress and anxiety. Learn easy to follow techniques that will allow you to reduce and abandon these unpeaceful minds.

Anxiety and stress are endemic in our busy, fast-paced life 💨 We tend to think that situations or people in our life are the causes of our stress and unhappiness. Consequently, we waste our time and deplete our mental energy by trying to figure out how to ‘fix’ those situations or people 🤔 . This usually creates even more mental busyness and stress.

Buddha taught that all our worries, anxiety and stress comes from within our own mind. 💭 More specifically, they come from our unrealistic expectations and our exaggerated views of ourself, the people around us and the world 🌍 in general. By learning to identify the actual causes of our unpleasant feelings and emotions, we can begin to understand how to free our mind from them and learn to face life’s adversities with a happy, peaceful heart. 💗

No previous experience is necessary —this course is perfect for anyone curious about meditation or looking to enhance their emotional well-being. 😌

Being truly kind to oneself and others is the basis for genuine happiness. True kindness is far more than simply meeting material needs but involves facing and abandoning our own negative thoughts and habits.

During the retreat we will explore meditations that allow us to face negativity 💪 and to replace it with kindness, to find true happiness and become someone who brings greater happiness to themselves and others.

💬”Today I joined a beautiful Buddhist Walk for World Peace at St Ives in Bingley. In a world that can sometimes feel darker and more uncertain, it was a powerful reminder that there is still so much beauty, kindness, and love around us.

Walking together through the peaceful surroundings, we paused for a short meditation led by Gen Kelsang Päljin from BuddhaLand in Keighley.

Gen Päljin is a Western Buddhist monk who has studied and practiced Kadampa Buddhism for more than 25 years, and his words were simple but deeply meaningful — encouraging us to carry peace within ourselves and share it with others.

The walk wasn’t just about the scenery; it was about taking a moment to slow down, breathe, and reconnect with the goodness in the world and in each other. In times when things can feel heavy, choosing to walk with peaceful intentions felt incredibly important.

I left feeling truly wholesome, calm, and at peace with myself. A gentle reminder that even when the world feels dark, we can all choose to be a little light for one another. 🌿🙏”

The centre does not have leaders who are are formally qualified/trained to lead walks or in first aid ⛑️ As such we can point out a suggested route but it is for each individual to determine if it is suitable for themselves and each person needs to take responsiblity for their own safety and wellbeing during the walk 🙏
