May Allah bless the founders, the donors, the supporters and all those who served here for His sake.

May Allah accept and bless the small efforts we make in and for our local masjids and our local communities.

Whatever moments we spend in them, may they be meaningful and weigh heavily on the scales when we meet Him. Āmīn

*What is Zakat al Fitr (Fitrana)?*

Zakat al Fitr, also known as Fitrana or Zakat ul Fitr, is a compulsory charitable donation of food to the poor and needy, that must be given at the end of Ramadan before the Eid prayer. Zakat al-Fitr must be given by every Muslim who has food in excess of their needs, and given by or on behalf of every member of the household.

As per the Hanafi school, it must be paid by every Muslim if the total value of his/her Zakatable assets (cash, gold, silver, merchandise) plus non-essential items (i.e. assets above their basic needs) minus liabilities (debts) equals or exceeds Nisab (the minimum amount that a Muslim must have before being obliged to give zakat). This as it stands is around £1,194.10. A person must also pay Zakat ul Fitr on behalf of all children under their care.

Sayyiduna Abdullah Ibn `Abbas (may Allah be well pleased with him) reported:
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) ordained Zakat ul Fitr [Fitrana] to purify the fasting person from indecent words or actions, and to provide food for the needy. It is accepted as Zakat for the person who gives it before the Eid prayer; but it is a mere Sadaqah for the one who gives it after the prayer.
