As far as I can make out, the placename Tregorlann means 'Settlement over (the Church), which makes sense with the majority of the village being up on the hill while the church is down in the valley. The English name though is Poundstock, which I'm told refers to the village being used as a holding pen for a cattle market at one time.

The Cornish language provides a 'sense of place' for those visiting and living in Cornwall with some 75% of place names having Cornish language roots.
