The Concert and Afternoon Tea on Sunday 23rd August was a great success. Thank you so much to everyone that joined and contributed to this lovely event.

Gracenotes, CrazyHeart Duo and the Gospel Choir entertained us wonderfully and the afternoon tea was amazing. The weather remained kind and the atmosphere was fantastic.

It was great to see so many new faces join us, including residents of Clarendon House Care Home. We are still collecting money, but it looks like we will have raised some £700 towards our projects – Many many thanks.

Both Churches celebrated World Day for Grandparents and elderly at this weekend's Masses - the closest weekend to the Feast of Saint Joachim and Anne - Mary's parents and grandparents of Jesus. Father Bosco invited all children to make this day a special day to acknowledge their grandparents love for them and the role they have in strengthening their faith.

During the Mass, children were invited to say a special prayer for their grandparents and light a candle. After Mass Grandparents were invited to celebrate with their grandchildren and enjoy cakes, ice pops and drinks in the garden.

Such a wonderful occasion.

The Sacrament of Confirmation is an important time in a young person's life where they receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit and are given the strength to witness to God’s love in both word and deed.

Our Confirmation programme starts on the 18th September and runs for 10 weeks until the 20th November. It takes place at St Bernardine's church from 7pm to 9pm on Friday evenings.

The confirmation service will be held at St Bernardine's on Friday, 27th November 2026 at 6.30pm. All candidates and their parents or carers are expected to attend the induction at 11 am on Sunday, 13th September 2026 at St Bernardine's.

The last date for submitting your application is 30th July. Eligible candidates aged between 12 and 17 need to attend these classes to be confirmed.

The application form can be found by scanning the relevant QR code on our latest parish newsletter https://stbernardines.org/latest-parish-newsletter/ or ring the parish office on 01280 813105.

This Sunday, 26th July, we will be celebrating World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly. We are inviting grandchildren to accompany their grandparents to Mass and give them a small gift or card. We will be celebrating with cakes and refreshments in the garden after 11am Mass - please join us.

Pope Francis established this global observance to fall on the fourth Sunday of July, to coincide with the Feast of Saints Joachim and Anne, parents of Mary and Grandparents to Jesus.

This year's summer lunches at both St Bernardine's and St Martin's have once again been lovely occasions and we have been blessed with sunny weather for them.

Thank you so much to all who attended one or both of the lunches and contributed delicious food, helped with the serving and clearing up. It is wonderful to have these opportunities for us all to get together and catch up with each other.

Thanks to those who ran the donation bars and of course the raffles and to all those who donated prizes. We are still counting the proceeds but between both events we will have raised more than £1,000 to help fund our parish projects. AMAZING :-)
