Thank you for Bitton Open Gardens

Twelve beautiful garden were open to the public on Sunday 7th June and villagers flocked to admire. They were not disappointed and after a wet few days the event was entirely dry. Thank you to all who opened their gardens and to the BVRA and Gardening Club organisers for yet another wonderful village event.

Two hundred years ago, in 1826, during a really hot summer, a stone coffin lid was excavated from the south side of St Mary’s Church and identified as that of Robert de Bytton, whose family had held the ancient manor of Bitton in the 12th and 13th centuries. It's Christian Aid Week The work that Christian Aid and its partners do is a form of magic. This year’s focus is on Kenya where people are learning to support them-selves by growing vegetables in the most unlikely places – tiny scraps of land in between the makeshift shacks of shanty towns. Christian Aid’s local partner, Beacon of Hope, is teaching people how to make compost, how to make the best use of tiny pieces of land and how to market their spare vegetables....
