SUNDAY SCHOOL DIGEST — THE WOUNDED SOLDIER
Memory Verse: “Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such a one in the spirit of meekness…” — Galatians 6:1
As believers, we are soldiers of Christ. We have been called out of darkness to stand, fight, and defend the faith. But even soldiers get wounded — through sin, carelessness, betrayal, hurt, backsliding, or spiritual attacks.
A wounded soldier must never be abandoned. God’s desire is restoration, not destruction.
1️⃣ DISCIPLINE & COMPASSION
When a Christian falls or errs, discipline must be done in love, not condemnation.
Discipline helps correction and growth (1 Tim. 5:20; Heb. 12:7–11).
Compassion must follow discipline — supporting the believer until they are fully restored (Rom. 12:15).
Those hurt by injustice, neglect, or backstabbing must be cared for and defended (Acts 6:1–3).
2️⃣ RESTORATION
Restoring a wounded soldier requires intentional love and support:
❤️ LOVE FIRST
God corrected David, but He did not discard him. Love must lead the process.
🤝 BUILD A SUPPORT SYSTEM
Surround the wounded with faithful believers who can strengthen them (Gal. 6:1–2).
👥 NEVER LEAVE THEM ALONE
Isolation worsens wounds. Stand with them until they rise again (Rom. 15:1).
🏡 CARE & VISIT
Encourage them with Scripture, prayer, and practical support (Rom. 15:4).
🚫 NO GRUDGES, NO LABELS
Do not remind them of their past or treat them like a plague (Matt. 7:1–2; 1 Cor. 12:25–26).
🙌 LIFT THEM UP
Never belittle or crush a wounded believer. Honour and strengthen them (1 Pet. 2:17).
📖 BE OPEN TO CORRECTION
The wounded soldier must also yield to the Holy Spirit’s correction to be fully restored (Prov. 12:1).
CONCLUSION
A wounded soldier must be recovered, restored, and reintegrated.
God’s heart is that none should perish but that all should come to repentance.
In Christ’s army, no soldier is left behind.
