We're grateful to God for our first ever Weekend Away - we had a great time! Thank you to everyone who played their part in making it happen, and to Andy and Kath Paterson for teaching us so well - adults, youth and children - from the book of Esther.

On Sunday morning we were looking at Galatians 4:1-20. Jonny read an excerpt from Adopted for Life by Russell Moore about how adopting two children helped him understand the phrase, 'Abba, Father.' The excerpt he read plus an extra paragraph he didn't read is available on the Latest News section of our website:

'Even though Zacchaeus gave away much of his wealth as a response to the salvation that came to him (Luke 19:8), that salvation didn't actually cost Zacchaeus anything. But it cost Jesus everything. Jesus journeyed on from Jericho to Jerusalem, where "like a sheep he was led to the slaughter" (Acts 8:32). In Jericho, Jesus had identified with sinners by eating with a man who climbed up a tree. But in Jerusalem, he identified with sinners by allowing himself to be eaten up by sin as he hung on a tree. On the cross, Jesus took upon himself all the corruption of Zacchaeus. He took upon himself the corruption of all of us who are willing to receive him joyfully into the centre of our lives' (Nancy Guthrie)

'By the time Zacchaeus finished paying people back (Luke 19:8), perhaps he was left with nothing. Yet he had everything - everything that mattered. Having Jesus as his Lord and Saviour meant there was a richness to Zachhaeus's life that far surpassed the money he once had in his accounts' (Nancy Guthrie)

'So what does it mean to be lost? I think it is to have no anchor, no direction, no purpose, no destination in sight. It is to wander through life aimless, disconnected, and confused, always hoping that the next purchase, the next experience, the next [holiday], the next milestone, the next high, the next promotion, or the next romance will fill the void. Most profoundly, to be lost is to be adrift, untethered, and cut off from the only sure and steadfast anchor for the soul (Hebrews 6:18-19). It is to be outside of and alienated from the only person who can provide rest for your soul. It is to be vulnerable to being forever lost' (Nancy Guthrie)

What does it mean that Jesus Christ is called Wonderful Counsellor?

Perhaps you hear the word 'counsellor' and you think of a professional person - a person who’s paid to counsel people. And counsellors can of course be professional, but counsellors can also be personal. We can be counselled by classmates or colleagues, or by family or friends. And a good counsell...

On Sunday 24th November, 2019 Luke was born and Charlotte and I announced the birth of our son. It was a low key birth announcement - we sent a WhatsApp message to family and friends. On Thursday 26th November, 2020 Arlo was born and Kurt and Martha announced the birth of their son. A few days later...
