Salaam Shalom Building Bridges Through Media, Dialogue, Education & The Arts

Salaam Shalom Media is dedicated to building bridges between the Muslim and Jewish communities and the wider communities that they are part of. Based in Bristol, we use education, media, dialogue and the creative arts to empower people to explore and share their own identities and that of others. Our aims are to:

+ Build bridges between the Muslim and Jewish communities of Bristol and the South-W

est- and between them and the communities that they are a part of.

+ Prevent prejudice and discriminatory behaviour based on ignorance of others’ faith and culture

+ Use media and the arts as a tool for positive social change, empowering people of all ages, and in particular young people, to bring about the changes they want to see.

+ Engage members of the community through outreach activities

In a rare occasion (some say only happens every 33 years or so)...Ramadan, Passover and Easter have all occurred together this weekend!

Ramadan Kareem!
Chag Sameach!
Happy Easter!

Christians, Jews, and Muslims celebrated an unusually holy weekend, as major holidays for the three religions fell on the same weekend, an intersection that only occurs every 30 years or so.

Using the Holocaust and making light of the deaths of Roma and Sinti people who are heavily persecuted as it is, is absolutely not comedy.

The comedian is described as "truly disturbing" for a segment of his latest Netflix stand-up special.

Salaam-Shalom invites you to take part in a workshop series:

Cultural Collaborations.

What: A space for Muslims and Jews in Bristol to come together and explore our experiences of culture, faith and identity, using creative arts and media.

Who is it for? This workshop is for anyone who identifies as Muslim and/or Jewish in any way, whether that is through heritage, upbringing, and/or religious practice. We welcome an equal balance of Muslim and Jewish participants. Spaces are limited to 16 participants.

What will we do? We will explore our experiences of culture, faith and identity, looking at the commonalities as well as the differences and tensions between and within our communities. Over the course of the workshop we will produce a short video involving poetry, music, interviews and/or acting. All levels of skill and experience are welcome, and there is no need to have any particular creative skills or experience to take part.

When:

This will take place over three sessions:

Sundays 6th, 13th & 20th March 2022
11am – 4pm

Lunch will be provided on each day.
