In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus challenges us to “render to God what is God’s and to Caesar what is Caesar’s”. It is challenge to put God into the proper place of sovereignty and majesty in our lives in an amazing call – to enter the world in intimate connection with God, such that God’s glory and work is revealed through us in all times and places.

As we seek to discern a clear distinction between our role as people of faith, and our role as citizens of the world we must be careful never to lose our identity as people of God as we work for justice, peace, and the well-being of the most vulnerable.

What does God’s call mean for us? How do we live the gracious and just life of Jesus (“what is God’s), and call others to live in ways that honour one another and are just, peaceful, respectful, and equitable (“what is Caesar’s”)?

How do we reflect and recognise God’s glory in those with whom we live, worship, and even disagree? Can we seek to allow God’s glory, grace, and compassion to be revealed to them through us?

Our Glow Stick Disco is suitable for 4-11 year olds and all children must be accompanied by an adult. Each child will receive a party bag with glow sticks and places are limited.

St Barnabas is holding a Community Fun Day suitable for all the family on Saturday 31st October 1-4pm. Free BBQ, Bouncy Castle and craft activities with the opportunity to spend a bit of change on a raffle, games with prizes and local artist Hannah's Rock Painting.

This afternoon a short service giving thanks for the companionship of beloved pets! 🌈❤️🙏 — and connecting us with the day of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and ecology — known for his humility and love of the whole community of creation. 🐈🐕🐇🐍🦜🐓

If you couldn’t join us then may be the following words for those of Franciscan hearts in BLESSING THE ANIMALS may help.

Bless again these creatures

Thanks to our small but determined team joining us earlier today for this months Community Litter Pick.
We cleared a few bags of mixed rubbish from around Filwood Broadway and outside Filwood Community Centre.

Our litter picks are on the first Saturday - join us for the next on on Saturday 7 November.

We conclude our journey through the Season of Creation looking at St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and ecology, and known for his humility and love of the whole community of creation.

St Francis recognised, like we should, the ‘imprint’ of God in every creature in a deeply sacramental view of creation. His devotion to Jesus, who became our brother, led him into a sense of friendship, not only with people but also with all things.

How do we engage in the struggle for equity and justice for the whole of the community of creation?

At St Barnabas this Sunday 4th October, from 10-11:30am, we're holding our second YOUTH ALPHA Session for anyone aged 12-18. If you're interested in exploring Christianity and in asking those tricky questions you've always had, this is the place to be. Each session is a stand alone session so it doesn't matter if you missed the first one. We eat breakfast, play games, watch a short video and have a bit of a discussion with a chance to ask questions and make new friendships along the way. If you're 12-18 years old, YOU'RE WELCOME. No need to pre book, just turn up.

These are FREE for those on a low income / receiving benefits. For those that can pay: Renters - 80% discount
Homeowners - 50% discount with Retrofit West Voucher. Experience suggests the advice on savings/ steps to take outweigh costs of survey.

Join us at our weekly community Warm Welcome Space.
We offer a free lunch at noon or thereabouts.
