You're invited St Mary Redcliffe after hours!

St Mary Redcliffe is hosting an evening of live music on Saturday 13th June, and we'd love you to join us for the next Redcliffe Session. Whether you're a devoted music lover or just looking for a night out that matters, this is for you.

Alex Pester will kick off the evening with music born from introspection and connection. Across 11 albums, he's created something rare: performances that are mysterious and unpredictable, yet deeply welcoming.

Dogsbody brings the artistry of Mimi Jones – a songwriter whose work has been compared to Jeff Buckley, Elliott Smith and Mazzy Star. Expect honest songs with grungy chord progressions and vocals that feel like they're sung just for you.

The best part? Every ticket sold supports St Mary Redcliffe's commitment to becoming more ecologically sound. We're investing in solar panels and heat pumps – building a sustainable future for a church that's stood for over 800 years.

Come for the music. Stay for the community.

An exciting opportunity has come up to join our Music Department at St Mary Redcliffe Church. Please find the full role description for Section Leaders on the vacancies page of our website. For any queries about the role please get in contact with our Director of Music [email protected].

St Mary Redcliffe is now seeking to appoint professional singers as Section Leaders (SATB) to lead its voluntary (robed) choir. The commitment is to sing at Sunday services on 38 Sundays of the year. There is also a Friday choir rehearsal each week from 19:00 until 20:30, a total commitment of 6.5 hours per week.

In addition, there will be 11 midweek commitments (especially during Advent, Lent and Easter), Friday evening services of Compline during Lent, 3 lunchtime recitals during the year, and a days’ worth of meetings across the year with the Music Department Staff.

The Redcliffe Sessions | Saturday 13th June. The next Redcliffe Session will see St Mary Redcliffe become a space for honest, unguarded music.

Dogsbody, the brainchild of Mimi Jones, crafts songs that feel like confessions. Her songwriting has drawn comparisons to Jeff Buckley, Elliott Smith and Mazzy Star; grungy chord progressions meet jazz-imbued vocals in performances that are raw, purposeful and utterly intimate. This session will be a special Dogsbody String Theory performance that you will not want to miss! Acoustic guitar, vocals, violin and cello.

Alex Pester's work emerges from contradiction: the desperate desire to connect through introspection. His songs are diary entries, yet the melodies are welcoming, evergreen. You are unlikely to find him shouting about his work, so join us for this rare performance. His performances are mysterious and hard to predict, and yet all 11 of his albums communicate his world, his loves and his fears in technicolor.

On Tuesday 2 June, our Vicar Brutus Green will climb the spire of our magnificent Grade I listed church – a feat last attempted by a vicar in 1872, during a thunderstorm as the spire was being completed.

But this isn't a stunt. It's a statement.

Brutus is climbing to bless our weather vane as we take a bold step towards our net zero future. We're installing solar panels this summer – energy from the sun to power our beautiful medieval church - and planning the installation of air source heats pumps to take us off the unreliable gas heating that's let us down for the last two winters.

Brutus brings genuine experience to this challenge. He served with 2PARA and completed parachute training – though we should note he'll be making this ascent without the safety of a parachute!

Will you sponsor him? Every donation takes us closer to sustainable, affordable energy for St Mary Redcliffe and a healthier future for our community.

🙏 You're invited to celebrate Ascension Day at St Mary Redcliffe!

Join us this Thursday, 14th May at 7:30pm for one of the Church's greatest feasts – a celebration that's been marked as a "Holy Day of Obligation" for centuries.

This year, we're welcoming the Deanery of South Bristol and our Area Dean, Revd Sarah Hancox, alongside our Vicar, Rev Brutus Green, who will be preaching.

Expect beautiful music including Haydn's Little Organ Mass and Matthias's "Lift Up Your Heads" – and afterwards, join us for a reception to meet Christians from across our Deanery.

The Ascension reminds us of Christ's triumph and our hope in His return. Come and be part of this wonderful celebration of faith in our magnificent medieval church.
