This is what Treefest feels like ✨

Singing in the nave, trees glowing in every corner, and families wandering from one tree to the next picking their favourites. Treefest is one of the most joyful weekends in our calendar, and it's made possible by the community groups, schools, families and businesses who bring their trees.

New - Sunday Concert Series

A reminder that this Sunday at 3.00pm we are delighted to welcome the University of the West of England Brass Band for the latest concert in our Sunday Concert Series. Do come and enjoy an afternoon of excellent music in the beautiful surroundings of St Mary Redcliffe.

The following Sunday, we are pleased to welcome Violet Wong, an accomplished pianist, trumpet player, music educator and adjudicator. Violet has over ten years of teaching and performance experience across Hong Kong and the UK, and holds an MA in Music Performance with Distinction from Bath Spa University.

Alongside her work as a performer, Violet is a passionate educator, teaching children and adults of all ages and abilities, including those with special educational needs. Her professional engagements have taken her to venues including St Paul's Cathedral, Bath Abbey, the University of Oxford and the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, while her international work has included performances aboard cruise ships and adjudicating at music competitions in Finland.

As founder of V3 Creative Unlimited, Violet brings together music, photography and the arts to connect people across cultures and generations. We are delighted to welcome her to St Mary Redcliffe and look forward to an inspiring afternoon of music
We are currently trialling these Sunday afternoon concerts over the half-term period and would love to hear your feedback. Who says a Christmas tree has to be a tree? 🧶

This brilliant pompom tree is one of the many wonderfully creative entries we've welcomed to Treefest. Past trees have been made from canoes, ladders, tools, fabric, wire, textiles, recycled materials, and yes, pompoms!

You can decorate a 1ft to 6ft tree, or get creative and make your own. The only limit is your imagination.

We are delighted to launch a new Sunday Afternoon Recital Series during half term, beginning on Sunday 25 October at 3.00pm with a performance by UWE Brass.

Founded just two years ago, UWE Brass has quickly established itself as one of the leading university brass bands in the country. The ensemble has performed in a number of high-profile concerts and competitions, including an outstanding top-five finish at UniBrass, where they also received the award for Best Percussion Section.

Their programme will showcase a vibrant and varied selection of music, ranging from contemporary and popular favourites to jazz classics and traditional brass band repertoire. Known for their musical flair and infectious enthusiasm, UWE Brass promises an entertaining afternoon for audiences of all ages.

Admission is free, with a retiring collection in aid of the St Mary Redcliffe Music Department and UWE Brass.

🎄 Treefest is back! 🎄

From 4–6 December, St Mary Redcliffe will be filled with a spectacular display of decorated Christmas trees, and we'd love one of them to be yours.

We're inviting local people, families, charities, schools, businesses and community groups to make or decorate a tree. There's no entry fee, and it's a wonderful way to raise money for charity and share your story with our many visitors.

We're aiming for 100 trees this year. Will you help us fill the church?

Have you got your tickets yet? Bristol Film Festival is screening Faust (1926) on Wednesday 21st at 6:45pm. Join us in the stunning Gothic surroundings of St Mary Redcliffe in October as part of our Halloween season. This visually stunning adaptation of the legendary tale was directed by F.W. Murnau, the genius behind Nosferatu, and Faust offers a similarly chilling exploration of morality, good versus evil, and the battle for one man’s soul. It’s a must-see for any film fan and a masterpiece of Expressionist cinema that still has the power to move and shock 100 years since its release.

This remarkable film will be accompanied by a live, entirely improvised organ recital by the award-winning composer Dr. David Bednall, blending silent cinema with live music to create a unique performance that promises to add another dimension to the experience; combined with the truly atmospheric setting of one of Bristol’s most iconic landmarks, it promises to be a night to remember.

As God and Satan battle for dominion of Earth, the demon Mephisto wagers with an Archangel that he can corrupt a righteous man’s soul. He focuses his efforts on the elderly alchemist Faust, who soon succumbs to temptation - but will Faust damn himself forever, and doom humanity in the process…?

Meet Thomas Chatterton – Bristol's most remarkable son and the poet who changed English literature.

Born in 1752 in Redcliffe, Chatterton was a child prodigy who created an entire world of medieval poetry before his seventeenth birthday. He invented Thomas Rowley, a fictional fifteenth-century monk, and produced over forty extraordinary poems that fooled scholars and inspired the Romantic poets who followed.

But Chatterton's story is also one of tragedy, injustice, and how society treats creative genius. He died in poverty in London, denied even a Christian burial because of the stigma surrounding his death. Yet his legacy transformed literature and culture.

This year, we're exploring Chatterton's extraordinary life through an exhibition at St Mary Redcliffe – the church near where he was born, where his family found refuge, and where his story began.

Bristol: Built by Dreamers is a spectacular new family experience bringing Bristol’s history to life through holographic storytelling. It has been created by Bristol-based Holotronica, whose pioneering Hologauze technology has featured in tours and productions for Beyoncé and Lady Gaga, and formed the centrepiece of London’s 2025 New Year’s Eve celebrations.

Staged in the stunning surroundings of St Mary Redcliffe and set to music, this 30-minute experience brings Bristol’s journey through time to life for audiences of all ages. Giant holograms of the city’s most celebrated icons, including the Clifton Suspension Bridge, Bristol Boxkite and Concorde, will rise through the church’s magnificent nave in a vivid celebration of Bristol’s history, creativity and character.

Bristol: Built by Dreamers opens Friday 6 November and runs until Friday 13 November.
