Most people don't know that U2's "One" was written in the middle of the AIDS crisis - and that Bono has spent 40 years using his Christian faith as the reason to fight for us, not against us.
Happy birthday to Bono, who turns 66 today. The U2 frontman has been raising money to fight AIDS since the 1980s, long before it was comfortable for a rock star - let alone a Christian one - to be associated with a "gay epidemic".
He co-founded (RED), which has raised over $700 million for AIDS treatment in Africa. He lobbied presidents. He flew to Africa with George W. Bush's Treasury Secretary to force the issue into the news.
And when Ireland voted yes on marriage equality in 2015, he stopped his concert mid-show and rewrote the lyrics of "Pride (In the Name of Love)" on the spot - singing "Gay Pride in the Name of Love" to a sold-out arena.
For 66 years, this man has been doing the work.
