A contemplative Christian community seeking Christ through silence, prayer and free discussion. It also gathers to share community meals, films and walks.

Foundation is a Christian contemplative community which grew out of the emerging church movement, where open enquiry and dialogue are embraced as part of the process of discernment. Foundation meets for its Sunday evening service at 7.30pm as a congregation of Cotham Parish Church at Cotham Parish Church, Cotham Road, Bristol, BS6 6DR.

It has a ‘faith exploration’ group which meets monthly to ref

lect on faith and theology in open and creative ways. We organise quarterly "friendly stage" events which explore faith, arts and justice. If you'd like to know more about Foundation and how you can get involved, please do send us a message. We look forward to hearing from you.

Ahead of Christian Climate Action's day of pilgrimage on September 9th we will explore the ways in which pilgrimage articulates a form of protest. Whatever your particular passion, pilgrimage may offer new and distinctive ways to engage with what you care about most; and to do so with others. What does it mean to not only stand in the shoes of another but to share something of a journey of solidarity? The service will include story, discussion and imaginative reflection.

Join us this Sunday evening for a service of Rest, as we come together in prayer and worship, contemplation and reflection.

We'll be looking to the story of Jesus' transfiguration for inspiration, a mountain top experience that prepared its participants for the valleys to come.

"Beholding Heaven in the Ordinary" - using Thomas Merton's photographs we'll share 'Visio divina' (praying with images) and share what we see.
We'll consider how images can be a channel of opening God's life to us in different and distinctive ways. Join us at 7pm on Sunday 30th July in Cotham Parish Church small hall.

This Sunday evening, at Foundation, we're going to take a deep dive into the Old Testament story known as Jacob's Ladder, and reflect on its resonances and connections to our lives.
So much about this unusual story is actually very ordinary, reminding us that the divine is encountered in ordinary places.

This will be a service of co-creation, with opportunities for discussion, and reflective practices.

This Sunday evening, we gather for an outdoor Agape Meal, enjoying the gifts of food, friendship and all that sustains us. There'll be plenty of vegan chilli and sundries, so come hungry! The meal will be shared in the context of our worship, so expect singing, liturgy and story-telling. Our gathering will be at the Vicarage, which is a short walk from Cotham Parish Church. If you've never been there before, you're welcome to meet at the church at 6:55pm, to walk down with others. If you can bring a camping chair, that would help, but is by no means essential!

We are delighted to be joining with the congregations of Cotham and St Paul's, this coming Sunday, to welcome our new curate, Adrian Howkins, to the Benefice. We hope you can join us in welcoming Adrian at this special Eucharist. Tea and coffee will be served from 4:30pm and there will be drinks and nibbles afterwards. In this "Create" service, we will be joined by artist Sara Easby, who will invite us to engage our imaginations and creative selves in response to John 21.1-14.
No previous artistic experience is required - come as you are!

In this service, Simon and Catherine will help us to reflect on our experiences of the ‘meal table’, and the significance of shared meals in the life and ministry of Jesus.

We will share a simple meal of bread, olives, cheese and a few other bits and pieces, and join together in worship and discussion.

In this service we will explore the practices that underpinned the mystical practices of Teresa of Avila and John of the Cross. Through poetry, creative responses, and music we will ask how these inspirational saints might inform our lives as Christians and/or as spiritual sojourners today.

This Sunday evening we gather to share an Agape Meal, remembering the ancient tradition of Table Fellowship, and the meals Jesus shared with his disciples.

We invite you to join us for this simple (yet delicious) meal of soup and bread, of friendship and mutual hospitality.
