COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY

With the warm weather upon us, our historic churchyard is bursting into life. The grass is growing, the shrubs are getting bigger, and the gardens are blooming with beauty and potential. Did you know that George Everest is buried here?

What many people don't realise is that all of the gardening and maintenance in the churchyard is currently carried out by a small group of dedicated church volunteers. They work hard and have accomplished a tremendous amount over the years, but the reality is that the churchyard is large, the growing season is busy, and we are finding it increasingly difficult to keep up with everything that needs to be done.

Our Sort-It-Saturday volunteer team meets on the first Saturday morning of each month to pick up litter, mow, strim, trim, and care for this special space. We are so grateful for the people who share a passion for preserving and improving this historic garden.

HOW YOU CAN HELP
We love seeing local residents enjoy the churchyard, whether that's walking through the gardens, sitting on a bench with a coffee, spending time with family, or simply finding a quiet place to pause. While the churchyard belongs to St Andrew's, we see it as an important part of the Hove community, and we'd love to invite the wider community to help care for it.

There are lots of ways to get involved:

🌱 Organise a one-time or regular volunteer group to help maintain and improve a section of the churchyard.

🌱 Plan a family volunteer day and spend time gardening together while helping children learn about nature and caring for community spaces.

🌱 Bring your club, school, business, or community organisation for a volunteer day once or twice a year.

🌱 Make a financial donation to help us maintain tools, purchase plants and supplies, or occasionally bring in professional gardening support.

PLEASE CONTACT US BEFORE UNDERTAKING ANY WORK IN THE CHURCHYARD. As a historic churchyard, there are important conservation, safety, and insurance requirements that must be followed. We are always happy to discuss volunteer ideas, but all activities need to be coordinated in advance to ensure work is carried out safely and that historic features are protected.

🏔️ Something new for the kids at St Andrew's tomorrow morning!
We’re trying out a newly designed 'action sheet' in the morning called the FLIPSIDE!

It's packed with drawing prompts, word puzzles, and challenges to get children engaged and actively exploring the Bible during the service.

Get your kids to grab a copy when you arrive tomorrow morning to try it out—we can't wait to hear what they think!

A great first full day at May Camp!

Crazy activities, amazing worship, great teaching and some of our youth are chilling in our 'band corner' as you can hear as the sun sets behind the St. Andrew's cross in the sky!

In January 2026, we appointed a new Youth and Children’s Coordinator at St Andrew’s. The journey of finding the right person turned out to be a interesting one, both for us and for her.

Jody brings both personal experience and professional passion to a growing need in : creating safe, welcoming spaces for young people who often feel overlooked or out of place. Her own journey has included navigating neurodiversity support, experiences of bullying, and the challenges of settling into a new culture. Those experiences have shaped a deep desire to help young people find safety and belonging, confidence, and community.

Our solar panels have had a clean this morning. Now they are in the best working condition as we approach the sunniest days to generate clean green energy for our church

The St. Andrew's Trekkers are about to set off from Arundel any moment now.

This Sunday 30 of our church family will be trekking 26.2 miles across the Diocese of Chichester from Arundel to Hove to raise funds to transform our building to help us build community.

We are on the hunt to add a few new resources for our kids and youth programs. If you happen to have any magnetic tile type toys that are collecting dust in your toy box, please let us know! We'd be happy to put them to use with our kids program (The Message) and youth programs (StACY G).
