Joshua 2:11 (ESV)

“The Lord your God, He is God of the heavens above and on the earth beneath.”

This profession of faith comes from the lips of one of the most unlikely characters in the Bible — a pr******te, a heathen, and a citizen of an enemy nation to God’s people. But it is exactly the unexpectedness of her faith which makes her such a source of biblical comfort and admonition.

On the one hand, Rahab shows us there is no valid excuse for unbelief in one true God. Rahab’s faith in the one true God was the reason she did not perish with the unbelieving heathen who surrounded her in Jericho. Hebrews reminds us. Also, James uses Rahab as an example of one whose genuine faith is shown by concrete acts of obedience and sacrifice.

When Rahab heard the report of all that God had done for His people - delivering them out of poverty Egypt, drying up the Jordan, conquering powerful kings - she trusted that this was the one true God in Heaven and in Earth. If Rahab could come out of such a conflicting and hostile society, to such a potent and unyielding faith, then it proves no circumstantial or cultural barrier is strong enough to overcome genuine faith in one true God.

There is also great comfort in the story of Rahab, particularly for those who are saved out of sinful lifestyles. There was a promiscuous woman, with dubious connections, and a dark and pagan past who was used of the Lord to deliver his people and eventually even usher in the Christ.

What a powerful witness - Rahab is of God’s ability, to forgive, to cleanse, and even to use those who come to him by faith.

May our/your faith lead us to courageous and sacrificial obedience today in the knowledge of Christ’s cleansing and healing power of your/our past. Amen.

“Faith without works is dead.” - James 2:17.

Faith is not just saying “I believe.” It is doing something about what you believe. Many times, people are waiting for everything to be clear before they act, but that’s not how faith works. Clarity often comes after you take the step, not before. When you move in faith, God meets you on the way.

As you take steps , trust God to guide you as you move. God corrects those who are walking, not those who are standing still. Heaven responds when faith is put into action. When you move, God moves with you, opens doors, and shows you the next step.

Prayer
Father, I choose to act on my faith. Help me move forward and not stay stuck. Guide my steps as I trust You, in Jesus Mighty Name. Amen.

Matthew 5:3
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

It means finding true spiritual fulfillment by humbly admitting your spiritual bankruptcy and your total, daily reliance on God.

“Poor in Spirit”
Spirituality, it means acknowledging that you cannot save yourself or earn God’s favor through your own strength.

“Blessed”
Being blessed here means being fortunate, highly favored, and on the right path with God. You are in a good position spiritually precisely because you recognise your desperate need for Him.

“For theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven”
God’s kingdom and grace are reserved for those who admit they need them. By emptying yourself of pride and self reliance you create room for God to rule and provide for your life.

“This teaching directly challenges human nature and cultural norms, which often reward self promotion, pride, and self sufficiency. True spiritual wealth begins with humility and surrender, marking the foundational starting point for a relationship with God”

Heavenly Father,
I come before You just as I am. I lay down my pride, my self-reliance, and my need to be in control. I acknowledge my spiritual poverty, on my own. I am empty, weak, and completely in need of Your mercy.
Forgive me for the times I have relied on my own strength instead of Yours. Strip away everything that keeps me from depending entirely on You. Give me a teachable spirit, a humble heart, and the courage to surrender my will to Yours.
Thank You for the beautiful promise that the kingdom of heaven belongs to the poor in spirit. I come to You empty, asking to be filled with the riches of Your love, peace, and presence.

In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
