Update on the Church Roof (St George's Church, Wembdon)

Thank you to all who have shown interest and concern for the church roof. We have some news to share!

Damage to the church roof during the storms of October and December 2024 revealed further serious damage to the Chancel roof, the area at the front of the church.

Following careful investigation, the PCC have been able to appoint Ellis & Co to proceed with the repair at an estimated cost of £100,907 + VAT, which amounts to £121,088. The work is expected to take 12 weeks and we hope to make an immediate start.

We have raised £81,975 to date, and with pledges yet to be received, the amount is £90,969 including Gift Aid. We are so grateful and thank God for his faithfulness to us as a Church.
The target of £30,000 is to meet this shortfall, which we hope to cover through fund raising and grant applications (and VAT relief where applicable). You can find information about how to give on our JustGiving page (https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/sgw), on the church website www.sgw.org.uk, or you can speak to Katherine Cannell (01278 426254)

Thank you so much for your interest!

PS we still think that the most interesting part of St George’s Church is what happens under the roof – anyone is welcome to join our Sunday services.

I now know more about the concert some of the Ukrainians living in our community are putting together this coming Friday, in St George’s Church.
They will be sharing with us not only Ukrainian songs but their own personal stories of how the war has changed their lives.
From 6.30.pm they will be showing us how to make a traditional Ukrainian dish called Kutya which we can enjoy together before watching them performance:- ‘A Taste of Ukraine’ at 7.30pm, which will give us a glimpse of Ukrainian culture through music and dance.
There will be no charge but donations would be appreciated for them to send hand warmers, socks, body warmers to their friends who are defending their much loved country.

Had some time at the pond today, I'm really pleased with how it is coming along. The dragonfly (sorry about poor quality) is a broad bodied chaser. Plenty of fish and newts too.

23rd March - Day of Reflection for Coronavirus

On 23rd March, let's take time to connect, supporting the millions of people who are grieving, and remembering the family, friends, neighbours and colleagues we've lost during the pandemic. Please join us at 11am for a minute's silence, followed by a time for prayer and quiet reflection. The 'Reflection Wall' will be available from 16th March for you to tie a ribbon on or write the name(s) of people you are missing. Please invite members of the community to join us in this. The coffee shop will be open until 12pm for you to use afterwards.
