Pentecost Sunday 24th May: Worship, Community and BBQ!
We're in for a brilliant Sunday at St Disen's for Pentecost (24th May). We're celebrating how the Holy Spirit birthed the first church and praying for a fresh outpouring of the life and love of God for us all. We've got two really different services - something for everyone. At 10.30am We have Morning Praise - a space for prayer, worship and meeting with God. The fab Sam Randall and team from Exeter Network Church will be curating our time! At 5pm we're gathering for Choral Evensong - traditional worship with music from Bradninch Voices. After that at 5.45pm it's Bank Holiday BBQ time! Bring a salad, or a pud, or drinks!

Watch this video to find out why the Diocese of Exeter is a fantastic and supportive place to be a member of clergy. We particularly welcome applications from women and those from black and minority ethnic groups. We are seeking missional leaders who will help us to grow in prayer, make new disciple...

A magnificent Cafe Church on Sunday focussing on one of the resurrection appearances of Jesus to the two on the road to Emmaus.

We played consequences to start to think about how a story unfolds and tables were asked to make a plate of food with plastercine which, in this story was the point where they realised it was the risen Christ sitting around the table with them. We responded by drawing around our footprints on an unrolled long piece of paper and adding our prayers on our journeys with Jesus.

Brilliant!! Some awesome ‘food!’ Can you see bacon, pizza, black pudding, sausages, carrots, beans, peas fried and scrambled eggs?? Top drawer!! I think there is Brussel sprouts and strawberries too!! Can you identify anything else?!

Jesus is alive for us and with us today hallelujah!!

On the Road to Emmaus
Luke 24
13 Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles[a] from Jerusalem. 14 They were talking with each other about everything that had happened. 15 As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them; 16 but they were kept from recognizing him.

17 He asked them, “What are you discussing together as you walk along?”

They stood still, their faces downcast. 18 One of them, named Cleopas, asked him, “Are you the only one visiting Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?”

19 “What things?” he asked.

“About Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied. “He was a prophet, powerful in word and deed before God and all the people. 20 The chief priests and our rulers handed him over to be sentenced to death, and they crucified him; 21 but we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. And what is more, it is the third day since all this took place. 22 In addition, some of our women amazed us. They went to the tomb early this morning 23 but didn’t find his body. They came and told us that they had seen a vision of angels, who said he was alive. 24 Then some of our companions went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but they did not see Jesus.”

25 He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?” 27 And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.

28 As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus continued on as if he were going farther. 29 But they urged him strongly, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over.” So he went in to stay with them.

30 When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. 31 Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight. 32 They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”

33 They got up and returned at once to Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven and those with them, assembled together 34 and saying, “It is true! The Lord has risen and has appeared to Simon.” 35 Then the two told what had happened on the way, and how Jesus was recognized by them when he broke the bread.

More than ever celebrated the Risen Christ at Sunrise on Easter Sunday on top of the hill between Bradninch and Silverton appropriately called Christ Cross! From this vantage point 360 degree views of Devon can be seen including: the Exe Estuary, Exmouth and Dawlish, the Sidmouth gap, Exmoor and Dartmoor. 120 gathered from churches in the Silverton, Bradninch and Cullompton area to sing songs, read relevant Bible passages, pray and reflect on the greatest story ever told! On this occasion Pastor Andy Mathers from Silverton Evangelical Church led the service and Rev Olly Mears of St Disens Bradninch gave the message, others read and prayed. A considerable amount of coffee and bacon butties were consumed afterwards in Tony and Lisa Bakers barn and it was so great to meet and greet fellow Christians from all around! I noticed there were more ebikes than people powered bikes along with a field full of cars in the next field!! Thanks so much to all involved and what a great way to celebrate our risen Saviour!

1 Peter 1:3
‘3Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you.’
