Sayyeda Aisha رضي الله عنها reports;
When the last ten nights (of Ramadan) began, the Messenger of Allah would tighten his waist-belt, stay up at night, and wake his family.”

Meaning explained by scholars:
“Tighten his waist-belt” is a metaphor meaning he would exert himself more in worship and avoid worldly distractions.

“Stay up at night” spending much of the night in prayer (qiyam), dua, and recitation.

“Wake his family” encouraging them to also seek the blessings of the last ten nights.
