Faithworks We provide practical solutions around food, debt, homelessness & social isolation in BCP & urban Dorset

Faithworks Wessex helps people across Bournemouth, Poole and Dorset; connect with their community, better manage their money and cope when in food crisis. We believe that the Christian faith is not just about being in a place of worship on Sundays, but it is also about putting that faith into action for the benefit of others. Faithworks Wessex started life as Faithworks Poole, founded in 2004 by t

wo visionaries. One – the Rev Jonathan Martin – was Chaplain to the Borough of Poole as well as the minister of a local church, and the other – Jeff Russell – was Principal Officer Adult Social Services in Poole. Both were very aware of people in need in the local community but also saw the passion and potential of individuals and churches to meet those needs, if an appropriate way of doing it could be found. Taking their inspiration from the national Faithworks Movement and Charter, the two men set up a registered charity that would have the credibility of independence from any particular church or denomination at the same time as attracting the support of a wide range of churches and individuals. The early work quickly established a reputation for reliability, flexibility and genuine care for those being supported, a reputation that has continued since its founding.

Today is World Hunger Day — not a day for celebration, but an opportunity to raise awareness of how, together, we can help address food poverty in our local communities.

Thanks to your incredible support and generous donations, we have been able to provide emergency food, recipe bags, community meals and much more, all within welcoming, safe community spaces. Thank you!

Do you have an old fair-style game sitting in a garage or shed? 🎯

On Saturday 4th July, we will be hosting our annual lone parent fair at St James' Church in Poole. This event is a space where families can make special memories together, connect with local support, and enjoy treats without judgement or stigma 🥰

We are looking for people who have fair games, and/or would be willing to help run them on the day🏆 Even the simplest games can create so much joy and connection. Last year, the CMA team kindly ran a penalty shoot-out, and the kids absolutely loved it! ⚽️

There are many ways to be involved, so if you can help in any way please get in touch! Contact Lucy on [email protected]

Morebus support enables unforgettable adventure for solo parent families 🚍

Thanks to support from Morebus, SMILE will be creating a special mystery tour for teens and their parent this summer as part of its six-week holiday programme. Transport can be a huge barrier for many solo parent families, and a day out like this would be completely out of reach without the generous support from Morebus.

“These tickets will help provide teenagers with valuable one-to-one time with their parent, while giving them the chance to get away from the everyday stresses of life.” – Lucy, SMILE Events & Volunteer Co-ordinator

Morebus visited SMILE’s coffee morning to celebrate this exciting venture. Richard Wade, Morebus general manager, said: “I wish them a thoroughly enjoyable day, and hope the memories they create will stay with them for some time to come.”

A huge thank you to Morebus for helping make this incredible experience possible 🙌

Wondering what to do this weekend? 🤔

Why not support Wimborne Community Garden in association with Beaucroft College at the BBC Gardeners’ World Spring Fair in the stunning grounds at Beaulieu? 🌸

Their miniature community garden contains plants that are chosen for their sensory, wildlife-friendly, educational or food production contribution, and many provide more than one of these 🌿

The Wimborne Community Garden team have sourced, grown, built and exhibited this garden themselves, as an inclusive team and with so many members contributing in varied ways to its creation; it’s a glorious community project for a glorious community team! 🌷

The BBC Gardeners’ World Spring Fair will take place between 1-3 May 2026 at Beaulieu, Hampshire.
