Faithworks We provide practical solutions around food, debt, homelessness & social isolation in BCP & urban Dorset

Faithworks Wessex helps people across Bournemouth, Poole and Dorset; connect with their community, better manage their money and cope when in food crisis. We believe that the Christian faith is not just about being in a place of worship on Sundays, but it is also about putting that faith into action for the benefit of others. Faithworks Wessex started life as Faithworks Poole, founded in 2004 by t

wo visionaries. One – the Rev Jonathan Martin – was Chaplain to the Borough of Poole as well as the minister of a local church, and the other – Jeff Russell – was Principal Officer Adult Social Services in Poole. Both were very aware of people in need in the local community but also saw the passion and potential of individuals and churches to meet those needs, if an appropriate way of doing it could be found. Taking their inspiration from the national Faithworks Movement and Charter, the two men set up a registered charity that would have the credibility of independence from any particular church or denomination at the same time as attracting the support of a wide range of churches and individuals. The early work quickly established a reputation for reliability, flexibility and genuine care for those being supported, a reputation that has continued since its founding.

📣 “Help us at the Foodbank” 📣

This message feels more urgent than ever right now.

We were so saddened to hear about the break-in at Christchurch Foodbank+ this week. Thieves stole 4m of copper gas pipe from the mains gas supply to the boiler, causing further damage too. Life is already hard enough for the people who rely on the Foodbank - especially while donations are down and demand is rising. Now, money that should be spent helping local people will need to be used on repairs instead.

Help Christchurch Foodbank+ in this time of need by donating food, or giving financially at https://faithworks.churchsuite.com/donate/fund/skaoqc7i

Formed last year, the Saints & Singers choir provides the opportunity for men and women moving on from street homelessness, to find community and purpose through singing together. Thankful Thursday 🙏

Today we want to say a huge thank you to 5-year-old super supporter Austin! For national volunteers week, he treated the volunteers at Wimborne Foodbank+ to some tasty treats he'd made. Austin organised a food drive for WFB+ after a break in last year, and we are so grateful for all his support! Thank you Austin!

🚨 WE NEED YOUR HELP! 🚨

Our 🎉 Lone Parent Fair 🎉 is happening on 4th July, and we're calling on our amazing community to help make it a day to remember!

Can you help with any of the following? 👇

🍰 CAKES!
We need delicious donations of homemade cakes for our cake stall. Drop off at St James' Church the day before the fair.

🎁 TOMBOLA PRIZES!
Got a brand new, unused gift, game, toy, voucher, or treat that could make someone smile? We'd love your donations! Drop off at a SMILE coffee morning or to St James' Church.

🙋 VOLUNTEERS!
Can you spare a couple of hours on the day? We need friendly faces to help run stalls, games and activities.

Every cake baked, prize donated, and hour volunteered helps us create a fantastic day for solo parent families in our community. 💛

Please send us a message, email [email protected] or call 01202429037 to find out how you can get involved! ✨

Let's make this year's fair our best one yet! 🎉

This Volunteers’ Week we want to honour the more than 360 wonderful people who give their time so generously, week in and week out throughout the year.

From warmly welcoming people to our foodbanks and projects, to reading stories, face painting, and creating balloon models at family fun days.

From setting tables and serving community meals, to sorting food parcels and making hot drinks in our foodbank hubs and homelessness project.

From planting and watering produce at Wimborne Community Garden to helping children grow strong and confident in our SMILE project.

From supporting people with addressing debt, and helping run the Money Course across our sites, to doing fundraiser runs with the team.

You do all this and much, much more… and all with a smile on your face (and sometimes a reward sticker from Sharon)!

You’re our heroes and we just want to say… you’re simply the best!
