POPE LEO XIV
The Pope met on Friday with a delegation from the St. Vincent de Paul Society of the United States of America. Founded in 1833, the global organisation seeks the sanctification of its members by personal service to the poor, and forms part of the Vincentian Family of Catholic organisations dedicated to St. Vincent de Paul. In his address, Pope Leo thanked the group's members for their devoted service to their brothers and sisters throughout the US. "By freely offering your God-given gifts and talents," he said, "you give eloquent witness to your faith in service to the building up of the Kingdom of God." The Pope encouraged them to deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ, so that He may guide their service to those most in need. "Saint Vincent de Paul demonstrated that prayer and social justice are not merely complementary but in fact are inseparable," he recalled, inviting the saint's spiritual children to follow his example. Pope Leo pointed to St. Augustine's teaching that care for the poor is centred on Christ and that God will always be generous to those who serve them. "We therefore believe that caring for others, when motivated by love, not only helps those in need, but also opens the heart of the giver to God's grace," he said The Pope then urged members of the St. Vincent de Paul Society in the United States to offer their time generously. By serving Christ in the poor, he said, God's grace will "steadily purify your hearts and minds, and you will more readily recognise Christ in your neighbour, both in those you serve and in those with whom you work." In conclusion, Pope Leo XIV offered his warm greetings to all members of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and all those whom they assist.

POPE LEO XIV
"In place of the weapons of war, the God of peace grants us the strength to heal, to reconcile and to build a civilization of love." Pope Leo said this in his Message for the 11th World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, published on Thursday by the Holy See Press Office. The Church observes the World Day on September 1st with this year's theme being, “They shall beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks” (Isaiah 2:4). In this way, the Holy Father insisted, we are called to safeguard the many “ecosystems” entrusted to us: the ecosystems of creation, of human relationships and of the human heart itself. "The true tools for building peace," Pope Leo underscored, "are not weapons of destruction; instead, they are truth, dialogue, patience, goodness, justice, mercy, understanding, care and love," which he said flow from hearts shaped by the Gospel and sustained by God’s grace. POPE LEO XIV
"The cry of displaced children rises to God today," Pope Leo said in his Message for the 112th World Day of Migrants and Refugees, which the Church observes on September 27th. The Pope's message was released this week by the Holy See Press Office. This year's day features the theme "Even just one of these children," from the Gospel according to St. Matthew. Pope Leo XIV began his Message by insisting that the title "Even just one of these children," draws our attention to the minors directly involved in the experience of migration and flight, to the care owed to them, and to the Lord’s promise that "whoever receives one such child in my name receives Me" (Mk 9:37). POPE LEO XIV
In Assisi for the Pope's pastoral visit on 6 August and for the inauguration of the Global House of Friendship and Hope, Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, spoke with journalists about the upcoming Israeli elections on 27 October. "Everyone is looking to the elections as though they will solve all the problems. In reality however, the problems of the Middle East are the kind that will require a great deal of time. We need new faces, new leaders. The voters will decide that." Speaking to Vatican Media, the Cardinal described the situation in Jerusalem as one of "great tension." Although, he noted, "we are not in a state of war with indiscriminate bombardments, violence has become the general lens through which relationships are experienced in Gaza, the West Bank, Israel, and Palestine."
