Kehillat Nashira: Borehamwood Partnership Minyan

Kehillat Nashira: Borehamwood Partnership Minyan Borehamwood Partnership Minyan, in which all participants can take a role in leading prayer.

We aim to establish an orthodox service on the foundations of halacha, spirituality and participation from women and men, which will inspire and elevate all participants through uplifting prayer, stimulating Torah learning, and a soulful approach to the orthodox siddur. The service will follow the ‘Partnership Minyan’ model, in which all participants take a role in leading prayer to the fullest ex

tent possible within the boundaries of halacha. It is run in ‘partnership’ between men and women – together creating an enriching Jewish environment.

In this week's 90-second video sermon, Rabbi Miriam invites us to consider the hidden stories of the women who did not die in the aftermath of the Spies episode, as the decree was just against the men, yet whose experiences are largely absent from the Torah's narrative.

🏗️ From this... to this.

The first phase of works has begun, with the strip-out of the building now in progress.

There's a long way to go, but we've started the journey towards creating our renewed home. We look forward to welcoming our community back into a space designed to support prayer, learning, celebration and connection.

The Nova Exhibition tells the story of the Nova Music Festival and the events of 7 October through testimony, artefacts, photographs and personal accounts.

Kehillat Nashira is organising two group visits this month:

📅 Tuesday 10 June, led by Jude Farshi
📅 Wednesday 25 June, led by Rabbi Miriam Lorie

Both groups will meet for a 6:30pm arrival. After the exhibition, there will be an opportunity to continue the conversation informally over a drink, with space to reflect on and process the experience together.

If you would like to join either visit, please email [email protected] and let us know which date you would like to attend.

Continuing our celebrations, we'd like to recognise just a few of the many people who help make Kehillat Nashira possible.

Thank you to:

⭐ The Gazvey family (along with Maraneys - see below), for their dedication to organising and supporting kiddushim

⭐ Miriam Westbrook, for her longstanding coordination of children's activities

⭐ Chana Baram, for her commitment as Gabba'it and Interim Chair

⭐ Joe Roukin, for always being willing to help and take on the practical jobs that keep things running

⭐ The Maraney family, for leading our Purim packing event with Gratitude

⭐ Jonny Hart, for his leadership and commitment to our new building project

⭐ Gary Sakol and Victoria Dadds, for bringing enthusiasm, energy and a welcoming spirit to our community

⭐ Our leiners, daveners and community teachers, whose learning, preparation and generosity enrich our services and programmes throughout the year

These individuals represent something much bigger. Kehillat Nashira is built by people who generously give their time, skills and energy in countless different ways.

To everyone who volunteers, whether visibly or behind the scenes, thank you.

This Volunteers' Week, we're celebrating the people who make Kehillat Nashira possible.

From leading services and organising kiddushim, to setting up chairs, welcoming newcomers, preparing children's activities, serving on committees, and helping behind the scenes, our community is powered by volunteers.

One of the things that makes Kehillat Nashira special is that when something needs doing, people simply step forward. Whether it's carrying tables after kiddush, helping with a one-off event, or taking on a regular responsibility, every contribution helps sustain and strengthen our community.

Thank you to everyone who gives their time, energy and care to help our community flourish.

Someone once asked me why I'd draw attention to Sotah, one of the more difficult chapters in the Torah for people today. Shouldn't we skim over it to the nice bits? But I think there's such deep beauty in the dance that each generation has done in interpreting the Torah, with great reverence, starting with Moshe himself, then the Mishna, Gemara and thousands of years to this day. Because it affects us deeply today. The line I talk about here on women studying Torah is a case in point. So let's not shy away from anything in Torah. Let's learn it more.
